Nell (artist)
Nell (born 1975) is an Australian artist working across performance, installation, video, painting and sculpture. In 2013 she won the University of Queensland Self-Portrait Award. In 2017 she was inducted into the Maitland City Hall of Fame in the category of The Arts. Nell lives and works in Sydney. Biography Nell was born in 1975 in Maitland, New South Wales. Her wife is the celebrity chef Kylie Kwong. She practises Buddhist philosophy. Nell studied under Lindy Lee at Sydney College of the Arts, the University of Sydney (1995), with Joan Jonas and John Baldessari at the University of California Los Angeles (1996) and with Annette Messager at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, Paris (2006). Career Nell's work often engages with binaries – life and death, happiness and sadness, dark and light. Performance art is an artwork or art exhibition created through actions executed by the artist or other participants. It may be witnessed live or through documentation, spontaneously developed or written, and is traditionally presented to a public in a fine art context in an interdisciplinary mode. Also known as ''artistic action'', it has been developed through the years as a genre of its own in which art is presented live. A thunderbolt or lightning bolt is a symbolic representation of lightning when accompanied by a loud thunderclap. In Indo-European mythology, the thunderbolt was identified with the 'Sky Father'; this association is also found in later Hellenic representations of Zeus and Vedic descriptions of the ''vajra'' wielded by the god Indra. It may have been a symbol of cosmic order, as expressed in the fragment from Heraclitus describing "the Thunderbolt that steers the course of all things". Romance Was Born is an Australian fashion house, founded by Anna Plunkett and Luke Sales in 2005. Producing haute couture and women's ready-to-wear garments and accessories, the brand produces designs that "freely toy with the relationship between fashion and art", often evoking an influence of Australiana. La Maison Rouge was a private contemporary art Foundation dedicated mainly to showing private art collections, monographic shows of contemporary artists' work. It was located close to the Bastille, in Paris, at 10 Boulevard de la Bastille in the 12th arrondissement of Paris. La Maison Rouge has been definitely closed in October 2018. History Created in 2004 by Contemporary Art Collector Antoine de Galbert, La maison rouge occupied an old factory building. The 2000-square-meter space was renovated by architect Jean-Yves Clément and the artist Jean-Michel Alberola. The Foundation offices were located at the center the building in what used to be an old red farmhouse (hence its name). Jean-Hubert Martin () born on June 3, 1944 in Strasbourg, France, is a leading art historian, institution director, and curator of international exhibitions. The Museum of Old and New Art (MONA) is an art museum located within the Moorilla winery on the Berriedale peninsula in Hobart, Tasmania, Australia.
