Navyug Ramlila and Dussehra Committee is one of the oldest Ramlila in Chandigarh, committees of Chandigarh; established in 1979 cater to the interests of new generation, has been organising Ramlila at Sector 7, Chandigarh. The Committee is being governed by the office bearers, elected out of dignitaries, prominent citizens, business people and other learned personalities. Keeping its existence as a reputed committee the members organises theatrical reenactment of Hindu God Rama's life, capturing his journey along with his wife Sita and brother Lakshmana, as he is exiled from his kingdom, his fight and eventual victory over demon king Ravana that is retold every year around this time to celebrate the triumph of good over evil, culminating on Dussehra. Ramlila in Chandigarh is one of the most important cultural events of Chandigarh. Ramlila is regarded as dramatic folk re-enactment of the life of Lord Rama. In Chandigarh, there are almost 60 places where Ramlila is being celebrated, out of which 40 are registered. Sita
Sita (; ) also called as Janaki and Vaidehi is a Hindu goddess and the female protagonist of the Hindu epic, ''Ramayana''. Lakshmana ( sa, लक्ष्मण, lit=the fortunate one, translit=Lakṣmaṇa), also spelled as Laxmana, is the younger brother of Rama and his loyalist in the Hindu epic ''Ramayana''. Navaratri is an annual Hindu festival observed in the honour of the goddess Durga. Tulsidas
Tulsidas (; born Rambola Dubey; also known as Goswami Tulsidas; c.1511pp. 23–34.–1623) was a Ramanandi Vaishnava Hindu saint and poet, renowned for his devotion to the deity Rama. He wrote several popular works in Sanskrit and Awadhi, but is best known as the author of the ''Hanuman Chalisa'' and of the epic '' '', a retelling of the Sanskrit ''Ramayana'' based on Rama's life in the vernacular Awadhi.
