National Youth Authority (Ghana)
The National Youth Authority (NYA) was established in 1974 by NRDC 241. It is thus, a Statutory Public Organization with the mandate to co-ordinate and facilitates youth empowerment activities in Ghana to ensure the development of the Ghanaian youth as a whole. The Authority was formerly known as "the National Youth Council (NYC)." In 1981, by an administrative directive, the council was transformed into a "Commission" status as "the National Youth Organizing Commission" with the focus to organize a mass national youth movement called the "Democratic Youth League of Ghana (DYLG)." With the inception of constitutional rule in 1992, the Commission status reverted to the "Council" once more. In consequence of a statute law revision exercise under the laws of Ghana (Revised Edition) Act, 1998 (Act 562), the nomenclature of the Authority was changed to the current, "National Youth Authority". The Government of Ghana was created as a parliamentary democracy, followed by alternating military and civilian governments in Ghana. In January 1993, military government gave way to the Fourth Republic after presidential and parliamentary elections in late 1992. The 1992 constitution divides powers among a president, parliament, cabinet, council of state, and an independent judiciary. The government is elected by universal suffrage. Azumah Nelson Sports Complex
Azumah Nelson Sports Complex, also known as Kaneshie Sports Complex, is a multi-use stadium in Accra, Ghana. The stadium was originally built during the era of the Supreme Military Council under General Acheampong in the 1970s. It was used mostly for football matches, on club level by Accra Hearts of Oak SC and Great Olympics of the Ghana Premier League while the Ohene Djan Stadium was being re-built in 2007. The stadium has a capacity of 10,000 spectators. It is named after Azumah Nelson. The National Youth Employment Program (NYEP) of Ghana was established in 2006 by the John Kufuor administration. It is an agency under the Ministry of Youth and Sports. Youth unemployment Youth unemployment in Ghana is a major issue in the country. 2011 World Bank country statistics for youth unemployment in Ghana found that 65 percent of Ghanaian youth are unemployed. Ghanaian students who graduate from accredited tertiary institutions are required under law to do a one-year national service to the country. The National Service Secretariat (NSS) is the Government of Ghana agency mandated to formulate policies and structures for national service. Structure of the NSS The organogram of the service has the Board of the service at the top. The Board supervises the activities of the Executive Director and two Deputy Executive Directors.
