National Institute For Compilation And Translation
The National Institute for Compilation and Translation (NICT; ) was the highest translation agency in the Republic of China. It is in charge of translating academic and cultural texts, as well as textbooks. It was established on 14 June 1932, in Nanking, under the Ministry of Education.http://www.nict.gov.tw/en/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=111&Itemid=101 It was relocated to Beibei, Sichuan during the World War II. In June 1949, the Institute followed the ROC in its relocation to the island of Taiwan, and is currently located in Taipei's Daan District. Among its other duties, the Institute publishes textbooks considered essential for the Taiwanese college entrance exam. In addition, before private Taiwanese companies were allowed to publish textbooks, the Institute was the sole supplier of textbooks for Taiwanese elementary and secondary schools. Daan District, Taipei City
Daan District (or Da-an District, Da'an, United States National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency District) is an important educational, commercial, residential and cultural district of Taipei City, Republic of China (Taiwan). The name of the district means "great safety" or "great peace". History The district is named after Daiwan village () that was once located near the intersection of present-day Xinyi Road and Fuxing S. Road. The name was changed in the 1800s (during the Qing era) to the more auspicious but similar-sounding "Daan" (; ). Beibei District () is a district in the Chongqing municipality, People's Republic of China. The system produces pupils with some of the highest test scores in the world, especially in mathematics and science.
