Natasha McKay
Natasha McKay (born 14 January 1995) is a former competitive Scottish figure skater who competes in ladies' singles for Great Britain. She is the 2018 Golden Bear of Zagreb champion, the 2017 Skate Helena champion, the 2017 Open d'Andorra champion, and a six-time British national champion (2017–2020, 2022–23). Her retirement was announced on May 12 2023. Personal life McKay was born on 14 January 1995 in Dundee, Scotland. She attended St John's School in Dundee before moving, around 2008, to Coventry, England. She returned to Dundee by 2012. Career McKay began learning to skate in 2002. In a 2018 interview, she recalled, "I begged my mum for skates for a whole year ..until she gave in." McKay won the junior bronze medal at the British Championships in the 2009–10 season. The 2019 World Figure Skating Championships were held in Saitama, Japan, from March 18–24, 2019. 2022 World Figure Skating Championships
The 2022 World Figure Skating Championships were held in Montpellier, France from March 21–27, 2022. Figure skaters competed for the title of world champion in men's singles, women's singles, pairs, and ice dance. The competition was used to determine the entry quotas for each federation at the 2023 World Championships. Montpellier was announced as the host in June 2019. It is the first time that Montpellier has ever hosted the World Championships and the first time that France has hosted since 2012. Background The tournament was notable for several high-profile absences. On March 1, 2022, the ISU banned figure skaters and officials from Russia and Belarus from attending all international competitions due to the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. Figure Skating At The 2022 Winter Olympics – Women's Singles
The women's singles competition in figure skating at the 2022 Winter Olympics was held on 15 February (short program) and 17 February (free skating), at the Capital Indoor Stadium in Haidian District of Beijing. Anna Shcherbakova, representing the Russian Olympic Committee, won the event, and her teammate, Alexandra Trusova, the silver medal. Kaori Sakamoto of Japan won bronze. Great Britain At The 2022 Winter Olympics
Great Britain competed at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing, China, from 4 to 20 February 2022. The Great Britain team consists of 50 athletes (27 men and 23 women). Eve Muirhead and Dave Ryding were the country's flagbearers during the opening ceremony. Meanwhile curler Bruce Mouat was the flagbearer during the closing ceremony. British athletes won a total of two medals (one gold, one silver). This result was described as a 'disappointment' by UK Sport. Despite the underwhelming games, Great Britain ranked 19th on the medal table, the same ranking as the previous three Winter Olympic Games. 2021 European Figure Skating Championships
The 2021 European Figure Skating Championships were scheduled to be held from 25 to 31 January 2021 in Zagreb, Croatia. Medals would have been awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pairs, and ice dance. Zagreb was announced as the host in June 2018. The city previously hosted the competition in 1974, 1979, 2008, and 2013. The competition was cancelled by the International Skating Union on 10 December 2020, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.
