Naslavcea
Naslavcea is a village in Ocnița District and the northernmost point in Moldova. The village, situated along the Dniester river that separates Moldova and Ukraine, has an ethnic Ukrainian majority. 2022 Russian missile incident On 31 October 2022, during the nationwide missile attacks in Ukraine, occurring during the Russian invasion, Russia launched a missile attack on a hydroelectric power plant, situated 10 kilometers north from the village, in Ukrainian territory. Debris of a missile, shot down by the Ukrainian forces, fell down in the territory of Moldova, near Naslavcea, causing damage to 21 households. For the first time since the beginning of the invasion, a third country would be affected by attacks, until Poland was hit by a missile only two weeks later. The Moldovan president, Maia Sandu, undertook a visit in Naslavcea on 3 November, where she criticized Russia for the actions. 2022 Missile Explosion In Poland
On 15 November 2022, a missile struck the territory of Poland at the village of Przewodów near the border with Ukraine. The incident occurred during an attack on Ukrainian cities and energy facilities by Russia. It was the first incident of a missile (vis-a-vis prior UAV incursions) landing and exploding within NATO territory during the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine. Initial assessments by the United States found that the missile was likely to have been an air defence missile fired by Ukrainian forces at an incoming Russian missile. Background The explosion happened on a day when the Russian military extensively bombarded infrastructure all over Ukraine, the largest-scale attack so far. Larga, Briceni
Larga is a commune in Briceni District, Moldova. It is composed of two villages, Larga and Pavlovca. History On 14 January 2023, during Russian strikes against Ukraine, Moldovan border police found missile debris in Larga. Moldovan airspace was violated as a result. Briceni (, uk, Брича́ни, yi, בריטשאן, Britshan, pl, Bryczany) is a city in northern Moldova. It is the seat of Briceni District. Demographics At the 2004 census, the city had a population of 8,765. At the 1930 census, there were two localities: ''Briceni Târg'' (literally ''Briceni Fair''), and ''Briceni Sat'' (literally ''Briceni village''), and at the time they were part of ''Plasa Briceni'' of Hotin County. 2022 Russian Invasion Of Ukraine
On 24 February 2022, in a major escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian War, which began in 2014. The invasion has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths on both sides. Unimedia
Unimedia is a Moldovan news site. It was founded in 2007 by Tudor Darie, Dumitru Ciorici, Vasile Galușca and Sergiu Gălușca. As of March 2013, they claim to have 120,500 daily visits and 500,000 daily page views. On 30 June 2009, Radio Free Europe described it as "a largely pro-opposition media outlet", the Moldovan opposition back then being composed by the parties opposed to the Party of Communists of the Republic of Moldova and to Vladimir Voronin. Unimedia was integrated to New Media Group in January 2008. After, in January 2010, Unimedia was transferred to Interact Media. Maia Sandu
Maia Sandu (; born 24 May 1972) is a Moldovan politician who has been the President of Moldova since 24 December 2020. She is the former leader of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) and former Prime Minister of Moldova from 8 June 2019 until 14 November 2019. On 12 November 2019, Sandu's government collapsed after a vote of no-confidence, with 63 (deputies from PSRM and PDM) of the 101 MPs having voted on the motion submitted by the PSRM. Sandu was Minister of Education from 2012 to 2015 and member of the Parliament of Moldova from 2014 to 2015, and again in 2019. She was selected as the joint candidate of the pro-European PPDA and PAS parties for president of Moldova in the 2016 election.
