Naples–Salerno High-speed Railway
The Naples–Salerno high-speed railway line (also known in Italian as the Linea a Monte del Vesuvio, meaning the "line up Mount Vesuvius") is a link in the High-speed rail in Italy, Italian high-speed rail network opened in June 2008. The line is one of the new high-speed lines being built to strengthen rail transport system in Italy and in particular freight and passenger transport in Campania. The line is part of Berlin–Palermo railway axis, Corridor 1 of the European Union's Trans-European high-speed rail network, which connects Berlin and Palermo. Route and features The infrastructure of the new line was completed in April 2008 with its electrification, which operates at 3 kV Direct current, DC, not the 25 kV alternating current, AC used on most new high-speed railways in Italy. The Berlin–Palermo railway axis (german: Eisenbahnachse Berlin–Palermo, it, Asse ferroviario Berlino-Palermo) is project No. 1 of the Trans-European high-speed rail network ( TEN-R), which involves the creation of a high-speed rail line between Berlin and Palermo. It is designated as one of the main transport links connecting Central and Southern Europe, tracking through Germany, Austria and Italy. Mount Vesuvius
Mount Vesuvius ( ; it, Vesuvio ; nap, 'O Vesuvio , also or ; la, Vesuvius , also , or ) is a somma-stratovolcano located on the Gulf of Naples in Campania, Italy, about east of Naples and a short distance from the shore. It is one of several volcanoes forming the Campanian volcanic arc. Vesuvius consists of a large cone partially encircled by the steep rim of a summit caldera, resulting from the collapse of an earlier, much higher structure. The eruption of Mount Vesuvius in AD 79 destroyed the Roman cities of Pompeii, Herculaneum, Oplontis, Stabiae, and several other settlements. Salerno–Reggio Di Calabria Railway
The Salerno–Reggio Calabria railway (known in Italian as the ''ferrovia Tirrenica Meridionale'', literally "the Southern Tyrrhenian railway") is the most important north–south railway connection between Sicily, Calabria and the rest of the Italian peninsula. It forms the southern section of Corridor 1 of the European Union's Trans-European high-speed rail network, which connects Berlin and Palermo. Its southern part, between Rosarno and San Lucido is also used as an RFI freight route between the Port of Gioia Tauro and the Adriatic railway. The Salerno metropolitan railway service is a commuter rail system operated by Trenitalia, serving the Italy, Italian city of Salerno. It is composed by a 5.66 km-long line with 6 stations, extending from Salerno railway station, the central station to the Stadio Arechi, Arechi Stadium, and is commonly known as ''Metro Salerno''.
