Napierville (provincial Electoral District)
Napierville was a provincial electoral district in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada. It was created for the 1867 election (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada). Its final election was in 1919. It disappeared in the 1923 election and its successor electoral district was Napierville-Laprairie. Montérégie
Montérégie () is an administrative region in the southwest part of Quebec. It includes the cities of Boucherville, Brossard, Châteauguay, Longueuil, Saint-Hyacinthe, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Salaberry-de-Valleyfield and Vaudreuil-Dorion. The region had a population of 1,507,070 as of the 2016 census and a land area of , giving it a population density of 135.4 inhabitants/km2 (350 per sq. mi.). With approximately 18.5% of the province's population, it is the second most populous region of Quebec after Montreal. The majority of the population lives near the Saint Lawrence River, on the south shore of Montreal. Montérégie is known for its vineyards, orchards, panoramas, products, and the Monteregian mountains. The region is both urban (second in terms of population in Quebec) and rural. Laurent-David Lafontaine
Laurent-David Lafontaine (August 10, 1823 – February 20, 1892) was a physician and political figure in Quebec. He represented Napierville in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1870 to 1881 as a Liberal. He was born in Saint-Philippe, Lower Canada, the son of François Lafontaine and Marie Coupal, and was educated at the Collège de Montréal. He qualified to practice as a doctor in 1846 and set up practice in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu and Saint-Édouard. Lafontaine was also agent for the seigneury of Saint-Georges. He was mayor of Saint-Édouard, warden for Napierville County and secretary-treasurer for the Saint-Édouard school board. He served as Liberal Party whip in 1881. Lafontaine was married three times: to Cécile Daigneau in 1850, to Edwidge Singer in 1857 and to Clémence Lemay, dit Delorme in 1868. Dominique Monet
Dominique Monet, QC (January 2, 1865 – February 6, 1923) was a Canadian lawyer, politician, and judge. Born in St-Michel de Napierville, Canada East, the son of Dominique Monet, Monet was educated at L'Assomption College and received an LL.D. from Laval University in 1889. He was called to the Quebec Bar in 1889 and was created a Queen's Counsel in 1899. He practiced law in Saint-Rémi, Montreal and Saint-Jean. He was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada for the electoral district of Napierville in the 1891 federal election. A Liberal, he was re-elected in the 1896 and 1900 election for the electoral district of Laprairie—Napierville. In 1904, he was elected as the Liberal candidate to the Legislative Assembly of Quebec for the electoral district of Napierville. Louis Sainte-Marie (April 30, 1835 – March 12, 1913) was a Quebec merchant and political figure. He represented Napierville in the House of Commons of Canada from 1887 to 1890 as a Liberal member and Napierville in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1890 to 1897 as a Liberal and then Conservative member. Eugène Lafontaine
Pierre Eugène Lafontaine (November 26, 1857 – April 21, 1935) was a lawyer, educator, judge and political figure in Quebec. He represented Napierville in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1886 to 1890 as a Liberal. He was born in Saint-Édouard, Canada East, the son of Laurent-David Lafontaine and Edwige Singer. Lafontaine was educated at the Collège de Montréal and the Université Laval at Montreal. He was admitted to the Quebec bar in 1879 and practised in Montreal with Raymond Préfontaine and then Frédéric Liguori Béique. In 1880, he married Elmire, the daughter of Louis-Joseph Moll. He was named Queen's Counsel in 1899. Lafontaine served as president of the Montreal Catholic School Board from 1919 to 1928. He was professor of civil law at the Université Laval and was dean of the faculty of law from 1922 to 1930. Napierville-Laprairie was a former provincial electoral district in Quebec, Canada which elected members to the National Assembly of Quebec (known as the Legislative Assembly before 1968). It was created for the 1923 election from parts of the Napierville and Laprairie electoral districts. It disappeared in the 1939 election and its successor electoral districts were Châteauguay-Laprairie and Saint-Jean–Napierville.
