Nanxiang
Nanxiang () is a town in the Jiading District of Shanghai. Sights The town is home to Guyi Garden, a large Ming dynasty Suzhou-style park. One of the biggest temples in Shanghai, Yun Xiang Si (), is located in the middle of the town, attracting a large number of tourists from all around the world. Food Nanxiang is home to the original Nanxiang Xiaolongbao (Nanxiang xiaolong mantou) that eventually became known as Shanghai-style xiaolongbao. Nanxiang Bun Shop is well known across China. The dish was also made more widely known after featuring in the film ''Leaving Me, Loving You'', which was set in Shanghai and starred the Hong Kong pop singers Leon Lai and Faye Wong. Transportation It is connected to downtown Shanghai by the Hujia Expressway (coded A12 in the Shanghai expressway system; A12 is now S5), which was the first expressway in China. Xiaolongbao
''Xiaolongbao'' () refers to a type of small Chinese steamed bun (''baozi'') traditionally prepared in a ''xiaolong'', a small bamboo steaming basket, hence the name. ''Xiaolongbao'' are often referred to as a kind of "dumpling", but should not be confused with Chinese ''jiaozi'' or ''wonton''. In some parts of China and overseas, xiaolongbao may specifically refer to a kind of soup dumpling, the tangbao (Chinese 汤包) of Jiangnan cuisine, which are strongly associated with Shanghai and Wuxi. In Shanghainese, these are also known as ' or ''xiaolong''-style mantous, as Wu Chinese-speaking peoples use the traditional definition of "mantou", which refers to both filled and unfilled buns. Nanxiang Bun Shop
Nanxiang Bun Shop () is a traditional Shanghai eatery located in the City God Temple precinct in the old Chinese section of the city. It was established in 1900. Nanxiang is a town near Shanghai where the ''xiaolong mantou'' was invented. The restaurant has more recently expanded internationally, with branches in South Korea and Japan. Jiading District
Jiading is a suburban district of Shanghai. It had a population of 1,471,100 in 2010. History Historically, Jiading was a separate municipality/town, until, in 1958, becoming under the administration of Shanghai. In 1993, Jiading's designated was changed from a county to a district of Shanghai. In the early Qing dynasty, which overlapped with Southern Ming, the municipality was infamously known for the "Jiading Massacre", a mass murder carried out by the invading Qing force, led by defected northern Chinese bandit general . In late Qing (in 1853), Jiading city was also known for bandit activities that once captured the city and then Shanghai, as a rebellion of taxation. Line 11 is a northwest–southeast line of the Shanghai Metro network. Since October 2013 Line 11 serves Kunshan city, making it is the second intercity metro in China after the Guangfo Metro and the first that crosses a provincial boundary. Guyi Garden
Guyi Garden () is a classical Chinese garden in the town of Nanxiang in the suburban Jiading District of Shanghai, China. The garden is located about from the city centre. Designed in the typical style of a Jiangnan classical garden, Guyi Garden is regarded as one of the five most important classical gardens of Shanghai. History The garden was originally owned by magistrate Min Shiji during the Jiajing era (1522–1566) of the Ming dynasty. After passing through various private hands, it was extensively re-modelled in 1746, during the Qianlong era of the Qing dynasty. In 1789, the local gentry pooled funds and purchased the garden to serve as the spiritual home of the patron deity of the prefecture, associated with the local City God Temple.
