The Namibia Football Association (NFA) is the governing body of football in Namibia. It was founded in 1990, and affiliated to FIFA and to CAF in 1992. It organizes the national football league and the national team. Its aim is to create a football culture and industry that provides entertainment and economical benefits for all; to become a dominant national association within the confederation via the professionalism of the game's administration; to promote education and development programmes in all aspects of the game, particularly regarding youth and women's football; and to provide a force for cohesion in society. South West Africa
South West Africa ( af, Suidwes-Afrika; german: Südwestafrika; nl, Zuidwest-Afrika) was a territory under South African administration from 1915 to 1990, after which it became modern-day Namibia. It bordered Angola (Portuguese colony before 1975), Botswana ( Bechuanaland before 1966), South Africa, and Zambia (Northern Rhodesia before 1964). Previously the German colony of South West Africa from 1884–1915, it was made a League of Nations mandate of the Union of South Africa following Germany's defeat in the First World War. Association football, more commonly known as football or soccer, is a team sport played between two teams of 11 players who primarily use their feet to propel the ball around a rectangular field called a pitch. Namibia Premier League
The Namibia Premier League (NPL), also known as Debmarine Namibia Premiership is the highest level of domestic association football in Namibia. The league was established in 1990 and was trimmed to 12 teams from the traditional 16 in 2005. It was folded in 2020 after ongoing problems with the Namibia Football Association, which finally ended the relationship. Meanwhile, the NFA founded the Namibia Football Premier League. Namibia National Football Team
The Namibia national football team represents Namibia in men's international football and is controlled by the Namibia Football Association. They have never qualified for the FIFA World Cup but have made three appearances in the Africa Cup of Nations. The team represents both FIFA and Confederation of African Football (CAF). First Division (Namibia)
The First Division is the second-tier association football league in Namibia. It operates under the auspices of the Namibia Football Association. Organization The First Division is divided into the Northern Stream (NSFD) and the Southern Stream (SSFD), each consisting of 13 teams from their respective regions. For some seasons the Northern Stream has been divided into separate North East and North West streams. The Northern Stream includes clubs from the Caprivi, Kavango, Oshana, Omusati, Kunene, Otjozondjupa, Ohangwena, and Oshikoto regions. The Southern Stream includes clubs located in Khomas, Omaheke, Erongo, Hardap, and Karas regions. Football in Namibia is governed by the Namibia Football Association. The Namibia Premier League is the main domestic league. The Namibia national football team has never qualified for the FIFA World Cup, but has twice been runner up in the COSAFA Cup. They qualified for two Africa Cups of Nations, in 1998 and 2008, being eliminated in the first round both times. 2008 Africa Cup of Nations In September 2007, the national team qualified for just their second ever African Cup of Nations appearance, which took place in Ghana.
