Nabin Subba
Nabin Subba ( Limbu) (born 14 December 1967) is a Nepalese film director, screenwriter and producer. He is generally regarded as a leading figure and pioneer of the "Fourth Cinema" movement in Nepalese cinema, making the film base on Nepalese indigenous community. His works '' Khangri'' and '' Numafung'' were awarded in many film festivals around the globe. His last major project was ''Goodbye Kathmandu'', which is due for release soon. He also directed a 52-episode TV serial called ''Dalan'', about Dalit (the untouchables in Nepal), which he completed in 2006 and which aired from NTV 2008/2009. The TV serial was one of the most popular serial in the history of Nepal television, and was nominated for One world media trust, UK for outstanding work on social issue in developing countries. Taplejung
Taplejung District ( ne, ताप्लेजुङ जिल्ला ) is one of 77 districts of Nepal and one of the 14 districts of Province No. 1. Limbu People
The Limbu (exonym) or Yakthung (endonym) are a Sino-Tibetan indigenous tribe (Bhot-Burmeli) of the Himalayan region of eastern Nepal, Sikkim, and western Bhutan. The original name of the Limbu is ''Yakthung'' () or ''Yakthum''. Limbu males are called ''Yakthungba'' or ''Yakthumba'' and Limbu females are called "Yakthumma" or "Yakthungma". Ancient texts state that "Yakthung" or "Yakthum" is a derivative of Yaksha and some interpret its meaning as the "Yaksha winner". In the Limbu language it means "heroes of the hills" (Yak - hills, thung or thum - heroes or mighty warriors), which connotates with the ancient Kiratis. Subba is a title given by the Shah Kings only to Limbu village chiefs. Subba was not an indigenous Yakthung terminology, but now the two terms are almost interchangeable. Numafung is a 2004 Nepalese film that portrays the culture and tradition of the Limbu community. It is directed by Nabin Subba. The film was screened at the Thirteenth Finnish Indigenous Film Festival. The lead characters in the movie are Anupama Subba, Niwahangma Limbu, Prem Subba, Alok Nembang and Ramesh Singhak.
