NY-242
New York State Route 242 (NY 242) is a state highway that runs across Cattaraugus County, New York, in the United States. Although signed as an east–west route, it takes a more northeast–southwest course across the county from NY 394 near the hamlet of Randolph in the town of Coldspring to NY 16 in Machias. The western end between Randolph and Little Valley was the western half of the short-lived New York State Route 17H. The eastern half of NY 17H was the southern end of NY 353 from Little Valley to Salamanca. Route description NY 242 begins at an intersection with NY 394 just north of Stillson Pond in Coldspring. NY 242 proceeds northeast through Coldspring on a two-lane rural road that crosses from Coldspring to the town of Napoli. Ellicottville (village), New York
Ellicottville is a village in Cattaraugus County, New York, United States. The population was 284 at the 2020 census. The village is named after Joseph Ellicott, principal land agent of the Holland Land Company. It lies in the southwest part of the town of Ellicottville and is north of the city of Salamanca. Ellicottville's current mayor is John Burrell. History The native name for this location was ''De-as-hen-da-qua'', or "place for holding court". The Holland Land Company opened an office in 1818. The community was the original county seat of Cattaraugus County in 1808, and public buildings were subsequently constructed. The village of Ellicottville was incorporated in 1837. In 1868, the county seat was moved to the village of Little Valley. Cattaraugus County (locally known as Catt County) is a county in Western New York, with one side bordering Pennsylvania. As of the United States 2020 census, the population was 77,042. The county seat is Little Valley. The county was created in 1808 and later organized in 1817. Little Valley (village), New York
Little Valley is a village in Cattaraugus County, New York, United States and as the county seat, is the location of the county fair (held in August in the fairgrounds north of the village). The village is in the northwest corner of the town of Little Valley, which is north of Salamanca. The village population was 1,084 at the 2020 census, out of a population of 1,740 within the entire town. The village's name is a relative comparison of two tributaries (the other being the neighboring Great Valley) of the Allegheny River. History Prior to 1868, the village of Ellicottville was the county seat, but the presence of a railroad line in Little Valley prompted a move. The village of Little Valley was incorporated in 1876. Franklinville is a town in Cattaraugus County, New York, United States. The population was 2,811 at the 2020 census. Franklinville is an interior town, located in the northeast quadrant of the county. Franklinville is also the name of a village in the town. History The town was first settled around 1806 by Joseph McCluer and known then as McCluer Settlement. The Town of Hebe was established in 1812 from the town of Olean, at the time the only town in the county, and consisted of the entire northern half of the county. New York State Route 240
New York State Route 240 (NY 240) is a state highway in western New York in the United States. The southern terminus of the route is at an intersection with NY 242 in the Ellicottville community of Ashford Junction in northern Cattaraugus County. Its northern terminus is at a junction with NY 324 and Interstate 290 (I-290) in Amherst in northern Erie County. The route passes through the villages of Springville and Orchard Park, where it meets NY 39 and U.S. Route 20A (US 20A), respectively. Much of NY 240 between Concord and Aurora follows the west branch of Cazenovia Creek. The Finger Lakes Trail consists of a network of trails in New York. The trail system is administered by thFinger Lakes Trail Conference(FLTC), a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization, composed primarily of volunteers. Description The FLT is primarily designated as a footpath only trail. The main trail (FLT) is 584 miles (939.9 km) long and extends from the New York-Pennsylvania border from Allegany State Park in southwestern New York to the Catskill Forest Preserve in eastern New York. There is an additional 400+ miles (643+ km) of branch and loop segments that branch off the main FLT—six branch trails and several loop and side trails. The town is centrally located in Cattaraugus County, north of Little Valley. History The area was first settled ''circa'' 1817.
