N5 Road (South Africa)
The N5 is a national route in South Africa that connects the N1 at Winburg with the N3 at Harrismith, via Senekal, Paul Roux and Bethlehem. It forms part of the main route between Durban and Bloemfontein as well as the quickest route between Durban and Cape Town, as it connects the N3 towards Durban at Harrismith and the N1 towards Bloemfontein at Winburg. Route The N5 begins in Winburg, at an interchange with the N1 north-west of the town centre. It is initially co-signed with the R708 eastwards, bypassing Winburg to the north (where the R709 provides access to the town centre). After 9 kilometres, the R708 becomes its own road south-east towards Marquard, leaving the N5 as the easterly road. From the R708 split east of Winburg, the N5 heads east for 54 kilometres to the town of Senekal. The R70 is a provincial route in the Free State Province, South Africa that connects Odendaalsrus with Ficksburg via Ventersburg and Senekal. Route The R70 begins in Odendaalsrus, at a roundabout junction with the R34 Route south of the town centre. It goes south-east as Church Street. After 6 kilometres, as the southwards road becomes Alma Road towards Welkom Central, the R70 becomes the road eastwards. After 5 kilometres, it meets the R730 Road (ZR Mahabane Highway) at a junction and enters the Riebeeckstad Suburb of Welkom as Jasons Way. From the R730 junction, the R70 goes eastwards for 23 kilometres, through Riebeeckstad, to the town of Hennenman, where it turns to the south-east. The N3 is a national routes (South Africa), national route in South Africa that connects Johannesburg and Durban, respectively South Africa's largest and third-largest cities. Wilge River
The Wilge River ( af, Wilgerivier, meaning "willow river") is a tributary of the Vaal River in central South Africa. This river is important as part of the Tugela-Vaal Water Transfer Scheme where water is transferred from the Tugela River basin to the Vaal River basin. The largemouth yellowfish is present in the waters of the Wilge River, reaching quite a large size. Course Its sources are about 50 km northeast of Harrismith, at the border with KwaZulu-Natal. In its upper course the river flows roughly southwestwards from its source, then westwards while bending northwards towards Harrismith, skirting the southern end of the Platberg where there is the confluence with the Nuwejaarspruit from the left. It begins by going southwards for 8 kilometres to meet the eastern terminus of the R712 road, which connects to Phuthaditjhaba. Kestell
Kestell is a small maize farming town in the Free State province of South Africa. Town 46 km west of Harrismith and east of Bethlehem. The new village was laid out in 1905 on the farms Mooifontein and Driekuil, acquired from Adriaan and Johannes Bezuidenhout. It became a municipality in 1906. Dutch Reformed Church and town's naming It is named after the Reverend Dr. John Daniel Kestell (1854 - 1941), Anglo-Afrikaner minister of the Dutch Reformed Church from 1894 to 1903, author and cultural leader, who played an important role in the Anglo-Boer War and later helped with the Bible translations into Afrikaans. As River
The As River is a tributary of the Liebenbergsvlei River in the eastern Free State, South Africa. Since 1968 it is impounded by the Sol Plaatje Dam (formerly: Saulspoort Dam) at its confluence with the latter river, just east of Bethlehem. Its origin is some 35 km southeast of Bethlehem, on the northern slopes of the Rooiberge, near Clarens. With the opening of the northern delivery tunnel of the Lesotho Highlands Water Project in 1998, the once tiny stream was transformed to a strong-flowing river. Water delivery The As River is one of the discharge points for the Lesotho Highlands Water Project. As of 2004, 18 cubic meters of water was released per second, and the river's flow is consequently not seasonally variable. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Other terminology for a concurrency includes overlap, coincidence, duplex (two concurrent routes), triplex (three concurrent routes), multiplex (any number of concurrent routes), dual routing or triple routing. Concurrent numbering can become very common in jurisdictions that allow it. Route The R76 begins at a junction with the R30 road 5 kilometres south of the R30 bridge on the Vaal River, which provides access to the town of Orkney in the North West on the other side. The R26 is a provincial route in Free State, South Africa that connects Zastron with Villiers via Bethlehem. Route The R26 begins in the town of Rouxville, at a t-junction with the N6 National Route. It begins by going north-east for 30 kilometres to meet the north-western terminus of the R726 Road and bypass the town of Zastron. From Zastron, the R26 goes northwards for 65 kilometres, following the borderline with Lesotho, through Van Stadensrus, to the town of Wepener near the Van Rooyen's Gate border with Lesotho, where it meets the R702 Road. The R702 & R26 become one road for a few kilometres westwards.
