The R70 is a provincial route in the Free State Province, South Africa that connects Odendaalsrus with Ficksburg via Ventersburg and Senekal. Route The R70 begins in Odendaalsrus, at a roundabout junction with the R34 Route south of the town centre. It goes south-east as Church Street. After 6 kilometres, as the southwards road becomes Alma Road towards Welkom Central, the R70 becomes the road eastwards. After 5 kilometres, it meets the R730 Road (ZR Mahabane Highway) at a junction and enters the Riebeeckstad Suburb of Welkom as Jasons Way. From the R730 junction, the R70 goes eastwards for 23 kilometres, through Riebeeckstad, to the town of Hennenman, where it turns to the south-east. The R26 is a provincial route in Free State, South Africa that connects Zastron with Villiers via Bethlehem. Route The R26 begins in the town of Rouxville, at a t-junction with the N6 National Route. It begins by going north-east for 30 kilometres to meet the north-western terminus of the R726 Road and bypass the town of Zastron. From Zastron, the R26 goes northwards for 65 kilometres, following the borderline with Lesotho, through Van Stadensrus, to the town of Wepener near the Van Rooyen's Gate border with Lesotho, where it meets the R702 Road. The R702 & R26 become one road for a few kilometres westwards. Just after crossing the Caledon River, at the northern terminus of the R701 Road (a four-way junction), the R702 remains on the road westwards while the R26 turns northwards. Rosendal, Free State
Rosendal is a small farming town and arts colony 49 km north of Ficksburg in the Free State province of South Africa which was founded in 1908. It has become a popular tourist destination, known for spectacular scenery, including the surrounding mountains, and is home to a community of artists and small business owners. The town has a number of attractive buildings and early-20th-century homes. There are several art galleries and several small cafes cum restaurants as well as a heritage district of restored buildings in the former downtown. A concurrency in a road network is an instance of one physical roadway bearing two or more different route numbers. When two roadways share the same right-of-way, it is sometimes called a common section or commons. Other terminology for a concurrency includes overlap, coincidence, duplex (two concurrent routes), triplex (three concurrent routes), multiplex (any number of concurrent routes), dual routing or triple routing. Concurrent numbering can become very common in jurisdictions that allow it. Where multiple routes must pass between a single mountain crossing or over a bridge, or through a major city, it is often economically and practically advantageous for them all to be accommodated on a single physical roadway. The R707 is a Regional Route in South Africa that connects Frankfort with Marquard via Petrus Steyn, Lindley, Arlington and Senekal. Route Its north-eastern terminus is a junction with the R34 just west of Frankfort. From there, it runs south-west for 55 kilometres to the town of Petrus Steyn, where it meets the R57 east of the town centre. The R707 and R57 are co-signed southwards for 2 kilometres before the R707 becomes its own road to the south-west. Just after splitting from the R57, the R707 meets the northern terminus of the R724 Road. It continues south-west for 30 kilometres to meet the southern terminus of the R725 Road and enter the town of Lindley. After passing through Lindley southwards, it crosses the R76 Road south of the town. The N5 is a national route in South Africa that connects the N1 at Winburg with the N3 at Harrismith, via Senekal, Paul Roux and Bethlehem. It forms part of the main route between Durban and Bloemfontein as well as the quickest route between Durban and Cape Town, as it connects the N3 towards Durban at Harrismith and the N1 towards Bloemfontein at Winburg. Route The N5 begins in Winburg, at an interchange with the N1 north-west of the town centre. It is initially co-signed with the R708 eastwards, bypassing Winburg to the north (where the R709 provides access to the town centre). After 9 kilometres, the R708 becomes its own road south-east towards Marquard, leaving the N5 as the easterly road. From the R708 split east of Winburg, the N5 heads east for 54 kilometres to the town of Senekal. The Sand River ( af, Sandrivier, formerly Zandrivier) is a river in the Free State, South Africa. It is located close to Welkom and Virginia in the gold mining center of the Free State. Its source is located close to Tweefontein NW of Ficksburg not far from the South Africa-Lesotho border, at . This river is famous because of the historical Sand River Convention signed nearby, an important event in South African political history. The N1 is a national route in South Africa that runs from Cape Town through Bloemfontein, Johannesburg, Pretoria and Polokwane to Beit Bridge on the border with Zimbabwe. It forms the first section of the famed Cape to Cairo Road. Prior to 1970, the N1 designation was applied to the route from Beit Bridge to Colesberg and then along the current N9 to George. The R730 is a Regional Route in Free State, South Africa. The entire 40-kilometre route is part of the ZR Mahabane Toll Route maintained by the South African National Roads Agency, which goes from Bloemfontein to Kroonstad (an alternative route to the N1 National Route). Although there are no tollgates on this stretch at the moment, it is labelled as a toll road to the near public and to motorists using the road (indicated on road signage). It begins south of Welkom at an off-ramp junction with the R30 Road (which takes over as the ZR Mahabane Highway to Bloemfontein) and ends east of Odendaalsrus at a t-junction with the R34 Road (which takes over as the ZR Mahabane Highway to Kroonstad). Odendaalsrus
Odendaalsrus is the oldest gold mining town in the Lejweleputswa District Municipality in the goldfields of the Free State province in South Africa. History It started out in 1912 as a ramshackle collection of farms and a central church that became a town. In April 1946 gold was struck on the farm ''Geduld'' near the town. This discovery was mentioned in Alan Paton's novel ''Cry, the Beloved Country''. On 5 December 2000, Odendaalrus was incorporated into the Matjhabeng Local Municipality along with the city of Welkom and the towns of Allanridge, Hennenman, Ventersburg and Virginia. Odendaalsrus celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2012, it is a town located on the Goldfields close to a couple of mines, and a large Harcos farm producing chickens and eggs.
