Mount Mo
''Mount Mo'' () (variously translated as Mo Hill, Moshan etc.), historically Mount Mo'er () and Mount Long (), is a mountain of historical and cultural significance located on the southern shore of East Lake, a AAAAA Tourist Attraction of China in Hongshan District, Wuhan, Hubei. Etymology The 'Mo' in 'Mount Mo' refers to a millstone (). The mountain is so named because it is round like a millstone. History Several hundred years ago, Mount Mo, then known as Mount Long, was the site of Fahua Temple. The temple had several hundred monks. Due to the spread of disease via mosquitoes, the temple was eventually abandoned. After a Spring 1954 visit to Mount Mo by Zhu De, a pavilion was built in commemoration of the visit with the inscription, "", meaning, 'For now East Lake is not as good as West Lake, but it will be stronger than West Lake.' Hongshan District, Wuhan
Hongshan District () forms part of the urban core of and is one of 13 urban districts of the prefecture-level city of Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province, China. The district is named for Mount Hong, located near East Lake. It is the most populous of all the districts, and is the most spacious but least densely populated among the city's seven core districts. Geography The district is located primarily on the right bank of the Yangtze River but also includes Tianxing Island () and White Sand Island () which are in the Yangtze River. East Lake (Wuhan)
East Lake () is a large freshwater lake within the city limits of Wuhan, China, the largest or the second largest urban lake in China. Wuhan's East Lake covers an area of 88 square kilometers (33 square kilometers of water area). It is one of the 5A tourist zones of China, and admits over a million people yearly. It is one of the largest sites in Huazhong District. It is also the largest "City Lake" in China. East Lake is made of four areas, Ting Tao, Moshan, Luo Yan Island and Museum of Hubei Province. One end of Moshan features a Daoist temple built over the putative site of where one of the characters in ''Romance of the Three Kingdoms'' performed special Qimen Dunjia rites before the famous battle of Red Cliffs. AAAAA Tourist Attractions Of China
AAAAA (5A) is awarded to the most important and best-maintained tourist attractions in the People's Republic of China, given the highest level in the rating categories used by the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. As of 2020, there are 279 tourist attractions listed as 5A. History The origins of the rating system for tourist attractions are based on criteria first set out in 1999 by the China National Tourism Administration (predecessor to the current Ministry of Culture and Tourism) and revised in 2004. Millstone
Millstones or mill stones are stones used in gristmills, for grinding wheat or other grains. They are sometimes referred to as grindstones or grinding stones. Millstones come in pairs: a convex stationary base known as the ''bedstone'' and a concave ''runner stone'' that rotates. The movement of the runner on top of the bedstone creates a "scissoring" action that grinds grain trapped between the stones. Millstones are constructed so that their shape and configuration help to channel ground flour to the outer edges of the mechanism for collection. Zhu De
Zhu De (; ; also Chu Teh; 1 December 1886 – 6 July 1976) was a Chinese general, military strategist, politician and revolutionary in the Chinese Communist Party. Born into poverty in 1886 in Sichuan, he was adopted by a wealthy uncle at age nine. His uncle provided him with a superior early education that led to his admission into a military academy. After graduating, he joined a rebel army and became a warlord. It was after this period that he adopted communism. Joining the Chinese Communist Party, he ascended through the ranks of the Chinese Red Army as it closed in on securing the nation in the Chinese Civil War. By the time China was under Mao's control, Zhu was a high-ranking official within the party. West Lake
West Lake (; ) is a freshwater lake in Hangzhou, China. It is divided into five sections by three causeways. There are numerous temples, pagodas, gardens, and natural/artificial islands within the lake. Gushan (孤山) is the largest natural island and three artificial islands: Xiaoyingzhou (小瀛洲), Huixin Pavilion (湖心亭), and Ruan Gongdun (阮公墩) stand at the middle of the lake. Chu, or Ch'u in Wade–Giles romanization, (, Hanyu Pinyin: Chǔ, Old Chinese: ''*s-r̥aʔ'') was a Zhou dynasty vassal state. Their first ruler was King Wu of Chu in the early 8th century BCE. Ying (Chu)
Ying (, ''Yǐng'') was a capital city of the State of Chu during the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods of Chinese history. In the early years of Chu's development, the state capital was located at Danyang, near modern-day Xichuan County in Henan Province.
