Miss World 1978, the 28th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 16 November 1978 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, UK. The winner was Silvana Suárez from Argentina. She was crowned by Miss World 1977, Mary Stävin of Sweden. First runner-up was Ossie Margareta Carlsson representing Sweden, second runner-up was Denise Coward from Australia, third runner-up was Martha Eugenia Ortiz of Mexico, and fourth runner-up was Gloria Valenciano from Spain. This is the first time that the award for ''Miss Talent'' was given.This is the second time that Argentina to win Miss World. Silvana Suárez
Silvana Rosa Suárez Clarence (; 29 September 1958 – 21 October 2022) was an Argentine model and beauty queen who won the Miss World 1978 contest, representing Argentina. The pageant was held in London, United Kingdom. Suárez became the second Argentine to win the title of World Beauty Queen. Biography From the middle class, Suárez's parents were both artists and divorced when she was a teen. She lived then with her mother, a teacher of Fine Arts, and after finishing High School, studied Architecture. ''"Was my mom who insisted that I attend a beauty pageant. I won the Miss Sierras de Córdoba and later the Miss World"'', she said in 2019. Suárez died from colon cancer on 21 October 2022, at the age of 64.

Maribel Guardia (; born Maribel Del Rocío Fernández García on May 29, 1959, in San José, Costa Rica) is a Costa Rican-Mexican actress, model, singer and TV hostess. She was winner of Miss Costa Rica 1978 and contestant in Miss Universe 1978. Mary Ann-Catrin Stävin (born 20 August 1957) is a Swedish actress, model and beauty queen who won Miss World 1977 in London. She is the third Swedish woman to win the Miss World crown. Miss World is the oldest existing international beauty pageant. It was created in the United Kingdom by Eric Morley in 1951. Miss World 1979, the 29th edition of the Miss World pageant, was held on 15 November 1979 at the Royal Albert Hall in London, UK. The winner was Gina Swainson from Bermuda. She was crowned by Miss World 1978, Silvana Suarez of Argentina. First runner-up was Carolyn Seaward representing the United Kingdom and second runner-up was Debbie Campbell from Jamaica.
