Miss Europe 1952
Miss Europe 1952 was the 15th edition of the Miss Europe pageant, held in Naples, Italy on 19 August 1952. At the end of the event, Hanni Schall of Austria crowned Günseli Başar of Turkey as Miss Europe 1952. A Miss Europe 1951 contest was supposed to be held the previous year in Cairo, Egypt. However, the contest did not push through due to undisclosed reasons. Contestants from thirteen countries competed in this year's pageant. Günseli Başar
Günseli Başar (22 January 1932 – 20 April 2013) was a Turkish beauty contestant and columnist who was crowned Miss Turkey 1951 and Miss Europe 1952. Biography Başar was born on February 22, 1932, to an officer's family in İstanbul, where her father was stationed. However, her birth was registered some time later in Erzurum due to her father's transfer. Her great-grand uncle was Grand Vizier Halil Rifat Pasha, founder of the almshouse ( tr, Darülaceze) in Istanbul and commissioner of the İzmir Clock Tower. She is of Rumelian Turkish, Circassian and Georgian descent. Günseli Başar completed her secondary education at Erenköy Girls High School in Istanbul. While studying sculpture at the Fine Arts Academy in Istanbul, Günseli participated at a beauty pageant organized by the newspaper ''Cumhuriyet'', and won the title Miss Turkey 1951 on October 13, 1951. ''The Singapore Free Press'' was an English-language daily broadsheet newspaper based in Singapore. History The paper was founded as Singapore's second English-language newspaper by William Napier, Edward Boustead, Walter Scott Lorrain and George Drumgoole Coleman on 1 October 1835 as the ''Singapore Free Press & Mercantile Advertiser''. Napier edited the paper from foundation until 1846 when he returned to Scotland. Abraham Logan took over the paper in 1846 running the ''Free Press'' for the next twenty years. His brother, James Richardson Logan, ran the '' Penang Gazette'' which produced cross-pollination of copy between the two papers and a mutual dislike of the East India Company. Miss Europe 1938
Miss Europe 1938, was the 11th edition of the Miss Europe pageant and the tenth and final edition under Maurice de Waleffe. The contest ended due to events leading to World War II. After the war ended Maurice de Waleffe died in 1946 leaving the pageant without an organizer until 1948 when Mr. Roger Zeigler (of the Moulin Rouge) and Claude Berr founded the Mondial Events Organization which started to sponsor and organize the pageant that year. This lasted until 2003 when the Mondial Events Org. sold the pageant to Endemol France (the French branch of the Dutch company Endemol).
