Miss Belgium 2020
Miss Belgium 2020 was the 52nd edition of the Miss Belgium pageant, held on January 11, 2020 at the Plopsaland Theater in De Panne, Belgium. Elena Castro Suarez of Antwerp crowned her successor Céline Van Ouytsel of Antwerp at end of the event. Van Ouytsel represented Belgium at the Miss World 2021 pageant, but was unplaced. Results Special Awards Contestants 32 delegates will compete for the crown: Observations For the first time since 2013, the election was live streamed on the RTL Play1 platform. The pageant featured 32 candidates, while there were only 30 during the five previous elections. During the evening gown competition part of the coronation night, Céline Van Ouytsel tripped on the hem of her dress causing her to fall on stage and even lost a bra which was inadvertently stuck in her long puffy sleeves. Céline Van Ouytsel
Céline Van Ouytsel (born 10 October 1996) is a Belgian model and beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss Belgium 2020. She was chosen to represent Belgium at Miss World 2021. Early life Van Ouytsel was born in Herentals, Antwerp, located in the Dutch-speaking region of Flanders in Belgium. Van Ouytsel attended the University of Antwerp, where she received a Master of Laws degree. Pageantry Van Ouytsel began her pageantry career in 2015, placing as the second runner-up at Miss Antwerp 2016, behind eventual Miss Belgium 2016 winner Lenty Frans. She returned to pageantry four years later, when she competed in and won Miss Antwerp 2020. After winning Miss Antwerp, Van Ouytsel was given the opportunity to compete at Miss Belgium 2020, representing Antwerp. Sleidinge
Sleidinge is a village in the municipalities of Evergem in the province of East Flanders, Belgium. It is located about north-west of Ghent. History Sleidinge was originally located in a large heath and forest area. The village was first mentioned in 1220 as Scleidingha. The etymology is unclear. In 1248, the area was cut in two. The eastern part belonged to the Abbey of St. Bavo in Ghent. The western became the possession of the Count of Flanders. The parish used to belong to the Diocese of Tournai until 1559 when it was transferred to the Diocese of Ghent. The French Revolution resulted in the reunification of both parts into a single municipality. In 1861, the Sleidinge railway station opened on the railway line from Ghent to Bruges. Tongrinne
Tongrinne ( wa, Tongrene) is a village of Wallonia and a district of the municipality of Sombreffe, located in the province of Namur, Belgium. Previously its own municipality, a 1977 fusion of the Belgian municipalities made it an '' ancienne commune'' of Sombreffe. Tongrinne is on the banks of the river Ligny. History The village and the heights of Tongrene were the location for the left wing of Blücher's Prussian Army during the Battle of Ligny, on 16 June 1815. Bertrix
Bertrix (; wa, Bietris) is a municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Luxembourg, Belgium. On 1 January 2007 the municipality, which covers 137.7 km², had 8,164 inhabitants, giving a population density of 59.3 inhabitants per km². Bertrix is home to the NATO reserve Jehonville Air Base. Lommel
Lommel () is a municipality and a city in the Belgian province of Limburg. The Kempen city has about 34,000 inhabitants and is part of the electoral district and the judicial district Lommel Neerpelt. Tessenderlo
Tessenderlo (; li, Loei) is a municipality in the Belgian province of Limburg. It is where the three Belgian provinces of Limburg, Flemish Brabant and Antwerp meet at the front gate of the Averbode Abbey. The municipality Tessenderlo encompasses the villages of Tessenderlo proper, Schoot, Engsbergen, Hulst and Berg. On January 1, 2006, Tessenderlo had a total population of 16,811. Seraing (; wa, Serè) is a city and municipality of Wallonia located in the province of Liège, Belgium. Mons
Mons (; German and nl, Bergen, ; Walloon and pcd, Mont) is a city and municipality of Wallonia, and the capital of the province of Hainaut, Belgium. Mons was made into a fortified city by Count Baldwin IV of Hainaut in the 12th century. The population grew quickly, trade flourished, and several commercial buildings were erected near the ''Grand’Place''.
