Stergomena Tax
Stergomena Lawrence Tax (born 6 July 1960) is Tanzania's minister for foreign affairs and East African cooperation since 2022. She was previously Minister of Defence and National Service from 2021 to 2022, becoming the first woman to hold the title since the country’s independence. Before that she served as the executive secretary of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). Early life Tax was educated at a number of primary schools in Tanzania and at Lake Secondary School in Mwanza where she was a contemporary of Tanzanian fifth president John Magufuli. She obtained her Bachelor of Commerce degree in Finance from the University of Dar es Salaam in 1991. Augustine Philip Mahiga (28 August 1945 – 1 May 2020) was a Tanzanian diplomat and Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs in 2019 and 2020. He served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 2015 to 2019. He previously served as the Permanent Representative of Tanzania to the United Nations from 2003 to 2010 and as the UN Special Representative and Head of the United Nations Political Office for Somalia from 2010 to 2013. Asha-Rose Mtengeti Migiro (born 9 July 1956) is a Tanzanian politician and diplomat who was the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations from 2007 to 2012. She was appointed as the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy for HIV/AIDS in Africa on 13 July 2012. Joseph Clemence Rwegasira (March 21, 1935 – March 4, 2016) was a Tanzanian politician and diplomat. Rwegasira, a former member of the National Assembly for Nkenge Constituency, served as Minister of Foreign Affairs from 1993 to 1995. He also held the government portfolios of Minister for Trade and Industry and Minister for Labour and Youth Development at various times during his political career. Ahmed Hassan Diria (July 13, 1937 – March 13, 2005) was a Somali Tanzanian politician and diplomat. He was born in Raha Leo, Zanzibar and was educated in local primary and secondary schools. He started working in government service in 1954, with a three-year period of study at the College of Philosophy in Ghana. Following the Zanzibar Revolution of 1964, he was appointed the area commissioner for Pemba. He remained in this position until 1965, when he joined the Tanzanian foreign service. He was the ambassador to Congo from 1970 to 1972; the high commissioner of New Delhi, India from 1971 to 1978; the ambassador to Japan from 1979 to 1984; and the ambassador to Germany in 1984. Ali Hassan Mwinyi (born 8 May 1925) is a Tanzanian politician, who served as the second President of the United Republic of Tanzania from 1985 to 1995. Previous posts include Interior Minister and Vice President. He also was chairman of the ruling party, the Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) from 1990 to 1996.
