Miku Makita
Miku Makita (born June 16, 2003) is a Canadian ice dancer. With her skating partner, Tyler Gunara, she is the 2021 JGP France silver medalist and 2022 Canadian Junior bronze medalist. Makita/Gunara finished in the top eight at the 2020 World Junior Championships and competed at the 2020 Winter Youth Olympics. Personal life Makita was born on June 16, 2003, in New Westminster, British Columbia. She has an older brother named Riku. Makita owns a pet cockapoo named Yuzu. As of 2020, she is a high school student in Vancouver. Career Early career Makita started skating in 2008. She originally competed in ladies' singles, recording her strongest results at the provincial level and never reached the Canadian Championships. BC Centre Of Excellence
The "Champs International Skating Centre of British Columbia" (formerly known as the 'BC Centre of Excellence') is one of two major figure skating training centers in Canada. Located in Burnaby, British Columbia, it is home to many great national and international skaters. The programs there are overseen by a staff, including Joanne McLeod, who coaches 3-time Canadian men's national champion Emanuel Sandhu; Bruno Marcotte, who competed at the 2002 Winter Olympics; Victor Kraatz, the 2003 World Champion in ice dancing, and Maikki Uotila, who was a national champion in Finland. 2019 Canadian Figure Skating Championships
The 2019 Canadian Tire National Skating Championships was held from January 13–20, 2019 in Saint John, New Brunswick. Organized by Skate Canada and sponsored by Canadian Tire, the event determined the national champions of Canada. Medals were be awarded in the disciplines of men's singles, women's singles, pair skating, and ice dancing on the senior, junior, and novice levels. Although the official International Skating Union terminology for female skaters in the singles category is ''ladies'', Skate Canada uses ''women'' officially. The results of this competition were among the selection criteria for the 2019 World Championships, the 2019 Four Continents Championships, and the 2019 World Junior Championships. 2018–19 ISU Junior Grand Prix
The 2018–19 ISU Junior Grand Prix was the 22nd season of a series of junior international competitions organized by the International Skating Union. It was the junior-level complement to the 2018–19 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating. Skaters competed for medals in the disciplines of men's singles, ladies' singles, pair skating, and ice dance, as well as for qualifying points. The top six from each discipline met at the 2018–19 Junior Grand Prix Final, which was held together with the senior final. Competitions The locations of the JGP events change yearly. Lake Placid Ice Dance International
The Lake Placid Ice Dance International is an annual ice dance competition held in Lake Placid, New York. It was first held in 1932. In 2015 and 2016, the senior international event was included in the International Skating Union's calendar. The event takes place early in the season, usually in late July. Medals are awarded on the senior and junior levels. The 2021 edition of the event was held in Norwood, Massachusetts due to construction at its traditional Lake Placid site. BC Winter Games
The BC Winter Games are an amateur sporting event held in British Columbia, Canada on every other (even-numbered) year. The next BC Winter Games are scheduled to be held in Greater Vernon, BC from March 23 to 26, 2023. Egna Trophy
The Egna Spring Trophy, formerly the Gardena Spring Trophy (through 2016), is an annual international figure skating competition. It is held every spring in Val Gardena in Italy. Medals are awarded in men's and ladies' singles and sometimes in other disciplines. Since its inception in 1990, the event has included a junior-level competition. Peter Beaumont (figure Skater)
Peter Beaumont (born July 24, 2001) is an English ice dancer, who competes internationally for Canada. With his skating partner, Nadiia Bashynska, he is a two-time World Junior bronze medalist (2022, 2023), 2022–23 Junior Grand Prix Final champion, a four-time ISU Junior Grand Prix medallist, and the 2023 Canadian Junior champion. Beaumont formerly skated for Great Britain with partner Mia Jowitt, and was the 2015 British novice ice dance champion. Personal life Beaumont was born in Rotherham, England. Nadiia Bashynska (born November 15, 2003) is a Ukrainian-Canadian ice dancer, who competes internationally for Canada. With her skating partner, Peter Beaumont, she is a two-time World Junior bronze medalist (2022, 2023), 2022–23 Junior Grand Prix Final champion, a four-time ISU Junior Grand Prix medallist, and the 2023 Canadian Junior champion. Personal life Bashynska was born in Kyiv, Ukraine. Her family subsequently emigrated to Canada. She became a Canadian citizen in September 2020. When not skating, Bashynska also works as a barista.
