Men Among Animals (band)
Men Among Animals is an experimental/pop group from Denmark. They are signed to German record label Tapete Records and known in Denmark for their energetic concerts. They have supported big acts like The Ruby Suns, Of Montreal, Dean & Britta and Apparat (musician). Biography The five piece took their name ''Men Among Animals'' in 2006 after having played in a zoo in Montreal (Canada). Members of the band stated in an interview with Danish national paper Politiken that the only audience present at their concert in Montreal zoo was the animals living there. Afterwards they thought it natural to take the name ''Men Among Animals''. Men Among Animals released their debut album ''Bad Times, All Gone'' in autumn 2007 through Tapete Records. The band has claimed in an interview with national radio that they want to change pop music in Denmark. Tapete Records is an independent record label based in Hamburg, Germany. It was founded in 2002 by Gunther Buskies and Dirk Darmstaedter and primarily focused on Deutschpop Bands such as Erdmöbel, Niels Frevert, Tele and Anajo. Since 2005 Tapete Records also attends to international acts, for example from the US, Great Britain, Australia and Sweden. The Ruby Suns are an indie pop group from New Zealand. They formed in 2004 when Californian Ryan McPhun moved to Auckland and started playing in several bands such as The Brunettes, The Tokey Tones, and The Reduction Agents. Biography The Ruby Suns are signed to Lil' Chief Records in New Zealand and Memphis Industries in Britain. In early 2007, the band embarked on their first European tour in support of their self-titled debut album, and in addition to that they did a Take-Away Show video session shot by Vincent Moon. Dean & Britta is a musical duo consisting of Dean Wareham and Britta Phillips, both former members of Luna. Wareham had formed Luna in 1991 after leaving his first band, Galaxie 500. Phillips joined Luna in 2000, replacing bassist Justin Harwood. History Their first album started out as a Wareham solo project, but when he heard Phillips' demos, he asked her to join him. ''L'Avventura'' was produced by Tony Visconti and released on Jetset Records in 2003, under the name "Britta Phillips & Dean Wareham". After hearing the album, Peter Kember (a.k.a. Sascha Ring (born 27 June 1978), better known by the stage name Apparat, is a German electronic musician. He was previously co-owner of Shitkatapult records. Starting out with dancefloor-oriented techno, he shifted focus towards ambient music, becoming "more interested in designing sounds than beats". He collaborates with Modeselektor under the name Moderat. Career Ring collaborated with Ellen Allien in 2003 on the album '' Berlinette'' and again in 2006 on the album ''Orchestra of Bubbles.''
