Calamoideae is a subfamily of flowering plant in the palm family found throughout Central America, South America, Africa, India, China, Southeast Asia and Australia. Max Burret
Karl Ewald Maximilian Burret, commonly known as Max Burret (6 June 1883 – 19 September 1964) was a German botanist. Burret was born in Saffig near Andernach in the Kingdom of Prussia, Prussian Rhine Province. He originally studied law at Lausanne and Munich at the instigation of his father. Burret had a greater interest in natural science than in law, and he eventually abandoned his law studies to conduct botany, botanical research in Berlin, where he earned a Ph.D in 1909 for his Taxonomy (biology), Taxonomic thesis, and quickly became one of Germany's most prominent botanists.
