Mati Nuude
Mati Nuude (18 February 1941 – 10 March 2001) was an Estonian weightlifter and singer. Nuude was born in Tallinn to a family of an Estonian officer, Lieutenant Albert Nuude, who was arrested by the NKVD and died in a Soviet prison camp. In 1949 Nuude, his mother, grandmother and brother were deported to Northern Kazakhstan. They were allowed to return to Estonia in 1958. His uncle was actor Rudolf Nuude. His coach in weightlifting was Alfred Neuland. Tallinn () is the most populous and capital city of Estonia. Estonians
Estonians or Estonian people ( et, eestlased) are a Finnic ethnic group native to Estonia who speak the Estonian language. The Estonian language is spoken as the first language by the vast majority of Estonians; it is closely related to other Finnic languages, e.g. Finnish, Karelian and Livonian. The Finnic languages are a subgroup of the larger Uralic family of languages, which also includes, e.g., the Sami languages. These languages are markedly different from most other native languages spoken in Europe, most of which have been assigned to Indo-European family of languages. Olympic Weightlifting
Olympic weightlifting, or Olympic-style weightlifting (officially named Weightlifting), is a sport in which athletes compete in lifting a barbell loaded with weight plates from the ground to overhead, with each athlete trying to successfully lift the heaviest weights. Athletes compete in two specific ways of lifting the barbell overhead: these are the snatch and the clean and jerk. The ''snatch'' is a wide-grip lift, in which the weighted barbell is lifted overhead in one motion. The ''clean and jerk'' is a combination lift, in which the weight is first taken from the ground to the front of the shoulders (the clean), and then from the shoulders to overhead (the jerk). NKVD
The People's Commissariat for Internal Affairs (russian: Наро́дный комиссариа́т вну́тренних дел, Naródnyy komissariát vnútrennikh del, ), abbreviated NKVD ( ), was the interior ministry of the Soviet Union. Established in 1917 as NKVD of the Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic, the agency was originally tasked with conducting regular police work and overseeing the country's prisons and labor camps. It was disbanded in 1930, with its functions being dispersed among other agencies, only to be reinstated as an all-union commissariat in 1934. Rudolf Nuude
Rudolf Nuude (25 June 1909, in Gdov, Pskov Governorate – 2 September 1980, in Tallinn) was an Estonian actor. From 1931 until 1936 he worked at Narva Theatre. From 1936 until 1938, and again from 1949 until 1968, at Estonian Drama Theatre. Alfred Neuland
Alfred Karl Neuland (10 October 1895 – 16 November 1966) was an Estonian weightlifter. He competed in the 1920 and 1924 Olympics and won a gold and a silver medal, respectively, becoming the first Olympic gold medalist from Estonia. He won a world title in 1922, and set three ratified world records in 1920–23: one in the snatch and two in the clean and jerk. Born in Walk (Valga), Governorate of Livonia Neuland studied in Riga, Latvia, and Saint Petersburg, Russia. He took up weightlifting relatively early, and placed second at the Russian championships in 1913 and 1914; he won the Russian lightweight title in 1915 and middleweight title in 1916. Apelsin (Estonian for ''Orange'') was an Estonian band created in 1974 by Tõnu Aare. Their lyrics are in the Estonian and Russian languages. During the Soviet era their LP albums were issued by the Soviet music monopoly ''Melodiya''. The Russian name of the band was ''Апельсин''. In both Estonian and Russian, the band's name means ''orange (fruit)''. Metsakalmistu
Metsakalmistu (meaning ''Forest Cemetery'') is a cemetery in the Pirita district of Tallinn. Metsakalmistu was originally planned to be a public medieval cemetery. Eduard Vilde was the first to be buried in 1933. The original area of the cemetery was 24.2 hectares, but has since expanded to be 48.3 hectares. Metsakalmistu was officially opened in 1939. That same year, 15 people were buried in the cemetery. In 1939, the nearby Kloostrimetsa Farm cemetery was created, which eventually, through expansion, became part of an expanded Metsakalmistu. At first, the designers of the cemetery were unanimous about the general design requirements of the cemetery, but the area was still dominated by the appearance of a wild forest.
