''María María'' is a Venezuelan telenovela which starred Alba Roversi and Arturo Peniche. It was produced and broadcast on Marte TV in 1990. Synopsis María María is the continuing story of Julia Mendoza who, after suffering amnesia from an accident, assumes the identity of Maria Alcantara, a young, frivolous millionaire. Julia's innocent act has startling repercussions, which shatter her life and the lives of those around her. Maria and Julia are in a terrible car accident together but only Julia is found at the accident site. She is horribly disfigured and is mistaken for María when she is unable to remember even her name. Later, she undergoes plastic surgery and is recreated as Maria. While a gang of beggars holds the real Maria, who also survived the crash, captive, Julia adopts Maria's identity. Arturo Peniche (born Arturo Delgadillo Peniche on May 17, 1962) is a Mexican telenovela actor who became popular in Latin America during the 1990s. He is the brother of actor Flavio Peniche, who appears in the telenovela '' La Traición''. Biography Peniche struggled as an actor for many years before reaching stardom. Although he graduated from the famous Televisa school of actors, he found himself competing against other figures such as Guillermo Capetillo, Andrés García, Jaime Garza and Salvador Pineda, among others. Peniche acted in several commercials during that period, experience that would later on help him land top roles at Televisa's telenovelas. A telenovela is a type of a television serial drama or soap opera produced primarily in Latin America. The word combines ''tele'' (for "television") and ''novela'' (meaning "novel"). Similar drama genres around the world include '' teleserye'' (Philippines), '' téléroman'' (Canada, specifically Quebec), and ''sinetron'' (Indonesia).
