Maladeta Granodiorite
Maladeta (3,312 m) is a mountain in the Pyrenees, close to the highest peak in the range, Aneto. It is located in the Natural Park of Posets-Maladeta in the town of Benasque in Province of Huesca, Aragon, Spain. Its northern slope contains the Maladeta Glacier, which is divided into the Western Maladeta and the Eastern Maladeta. Maladeta was previously considered to be highest peak in the area, and attempts to reach its summit took priority over the other peaks in the range. The first successful ascent of the peak was made by Johann Jacob Friedrich Wilhelm Parrot with guide Pierre Barrau in 1817. Etymology The name "Maladeta" comes from the Spanish ''montes malditos'', which means "Damned Mountains". According to some authorities the local name for the massif was ''Mala hita'' ("bad rocks" or "bad upper regions"). The Pyrenees (; es, Pirineos ; french: Pyrénées ; ca, Pirineu ; eu, Pirinioak ; oc, Pirenèus ; an, Pirineus) is a mountain range straddling the border of France and Spain. A mountain hut is a building located high in the mountains, generally accessible only by foot, intended to provide food and shelter to mountaineers, climbers and hikers. Mountain huts are usually operated by an Alpine Club or some organization dedicated to hiking or mountain recreation. They are known by many names, including alpine hut, mountain shelter, mountain refuge, mountain lodge, and mountain hostel. It may also be called a refuge hut, although these occur in lowland areas (e.g. lowland forests) too. Mountain huts can provide a range of services, starting with shelter and simple sleeping berths. List Of Pyrenean Three-thousanders
This list contains all of the Pyrenean three-thousanders, namely the 129 mountain summits of or more above sea level in the Pyrenees, a range of mountains in southwest Europe that forms a natural border between France and Spain. The Pyrenees separate the Iberian Peninsula from the rest of continental Europe, and extend for about from the Bay of Biscay (Cap Higuer) to the Mediterranean Sea ( Cap de Creus). The highest mountain in the Pyrenees is Aneto in Spain at . The summits meeting the 3,000-metre criterion were defined by a UIAA-sponsored joint Franco-Spanish team led by Juan Buyse. Bergschrund
A bergschrund (from the German for ''mountain cleft'') or rimaye (from French; ) is a crevasse that forms where moving glacier ice separates from the stagnant ice or firn above. It is often a serious obstacle for mountaineers, who sometimes abbreviate "bergschrund" to "schrund". Bergschrunds extend to the bedrock and can have a depth of well over . The bergschrund is distinct from the randkluft (also called ''rimaye''), which is the crevasse of which one face is the rock, back wall of the corrie. Cerler
Cerler, officially called ''Aramón Cerler'', is a ski resort situated above the village of Cerler in the high Benasque Valley, near the town of Benasque in the central Pyrenees (province of Huesca, Spain). Near Cerler are the highest peaks of the Pyrenees, ''Aneto'', ''Monte Perdido'', and '' Posets''. The resort Cerler has 72 km of marked pistes and is one of the highest resorts of the Pyrenees. The highest point is 'Gallinero' peak, at 2650 m AMSL, giving a vertical drop of 1150 m. Cerler village, situated at 1500 m AMSL, forms the base of the resort and comprises a traditional nucleus and a purpose-built extension that includes several hotels and apartment complexes. Posets Peak
Pico Posets or Punta de Llardana is the second highest peak of the Pyrenees, after Aneto. It is located in the Spain, Spanish province of Huesca (province), Huesca and is high. Ascent route From the ''Angel Orús'' refuge (2,095 m), a well-marked path heads northwest. After an hour of climbing the route crosses a stream. Further on, the path forks. The route follows the right-hand fork along a narrow valley (''Canal Fonda''), which has a snowy section almost all year round, so it is advisable to take an ice axe and crampons. In under three hours, the path leads to the foot of the ''Tooth of Llardana'' (which can be ascended more easily when returning from the summit of the Posets). Following the stone slope after four hours of ascent the summit is reached. The descent to the refuge follows the same route and takes about three hours.
