Mire
A mire, peatland, or quagmire is a wetland area dominated by living peat-forming plants. Mires arise because of incomplete decomposition of organic matter, usually litter from vegetation, due to water-logging and subsequent anoxia. All types of mires share the common characteristic of being saturated with water, at least seasonally with actively forming peat, while having their own ecosystem. Like coral reefs, mires are unusual landforms that derive mostly from biological rather than physical processes, and can take on characteristic shapes and surface patterning. A quagmire is a floating (quaking) mire, bog, or any peatland being in a stage of hydrosere or hydrarch (hydroseral) succession, resulting in pond-filling yields underfoot. Dverberg is a small village in Andøy Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located on the east coast of the island of Andøya, along the Andfjorden, about south of the large village of Andenes. The village of Dverberg is also called Myre. Myre Church
Myre Church ( no, Myre kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Øksnes Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Myre in the northern part of the island of Langøya. It is one of the churches for the Øksnes parish which is part of the Vesterålen prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Sør-Hålogaland. The white, concrete church was built in a fan-shaped style in 1979 using plans drawn up by the architect Arne Aursand. The church seats about 300 people. Myre-Big Island State Park is a state park of Minnesota, USA, just outside the city of Albert Lea. It has an area of . The park protects of shoreline on Albert Lea Lake. The nucleus of the park is Big Island, a island attached to the mainland by a causeway. In turn a causeway connects Big Island to Little Island. The park was formerly named Helmer Myre State Park after former Minnesota State Senator Helmer Myre. Natural history The park is situated on the Bemis Moraine, which marks the southern extent of a glacial lobe during the Wisconsin glaciation 10,000 years ago. As the glacier retreated, the moraine caused the meltwater to back up behind it. Albert Lea Lake was created as a moraine-dammed lake and today covers . Odd Myre (9 November 1912 – 4 July 2005) was a Norwegian marketing agent. He was a son of Olav Myre, who founded the news agency ''Myres Pressebyrå'' in 1910. In 1935, Odd Myre took over the company, which had been supplemented with advertising in 1918. Due to new laws, the advertising and news section had to be split, and the company was carried on as ''Myres Reklamebyrå'', purely with advertising. Myre sat as CEO of the company until 1968. He was succeeded by Asbjørn Sæthre, who sat until 1998. The company was merged with BBDO in 1999. In 1958, he co-founded the ''Institute of Marketing'' (). Philippe Louis Myre (born November 1, 1948) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey goaltender who played 14 seasons in the National Hockey League (NHL) for the Montreal Canadiens, Atlanta Flames, St. Louis Blues, Philadelphia Flyers, Colorado Rockies and Buffalo Sabres. Myre was born in Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Quebec. Playing career Originally selected by the Montreal Canadiens in the 1966 NHL Entry Draft, Myre played parts of three seasons with the Canadiens. In 1970-71, because of an injury to Rogatien Vachon, he played 30 regular season games and dressed for 70. However, during the playoffs, the Canadiens went with rookie Ken Dryden. When Montreal won the Cup, Myre was included in the team picture and was given a Stanley Cup ring, but his name was left off the Cup, even though he qualified, because he did not dress for any playoff games.
