Mutant (album)
''Mutant'' is the second studio album by Venezuelan electronic music producer Arca. It was released on 20 November 2015 via Mute. According to Arca, the album chronicles, "sensuality and impulsiveness as escape routes out of rigidity". It has been labeled as a noise, trap, industrial and experimental album. To promote ''Mutant'', four singles were released. Upon release, the album was critically acclaimed and was ranked as Tiny Mix Tapes' favorite album of 2015. Critical reception ''Mutant'' received widespread acclaim from contemporary music critics. At Metacritic, which assigns a normalized rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the album received an average score of 81, based on 21 reviews, which indicates "universal acclaim". Arca (producer)
Alejandra Ghersi Rodríguez (born 14 October 1989), known professionally as Arca, is a Venezuelan musician and record producer based in Barcelona, Spain. She initially began releasing music under the name of Nuuro. After attending the Clive Davis Institute of Recorded Music, Ghersi first released the EP ''Baron Libre'' (2012) under the name Arca and subsequently released the EPs ''Stretch 1'' and ''Stretch 2''; the latter experimented with hip hop and brought her attention from prominent music publications. She released her first two albums, ''Xen'' and ''Mutant'', in 2014 and 2015 respectively. Her eponymous third album, '' Arca'' (2017), became the first to prominently feature her vocals. Trap Music
Trap is a subgenre of hip hop music that originated in the Southern United States during the 1990s. The genre gets its name from the Atlanta slang word "trap", a house used exclusively to sell drugs. Trap music uses synthesized drums and is characterized by complex hi-hat patterns, tuned kick drums with a long decay (originally from the Roland TR-808 drum machine), and lyrical content that often focuses on drug use and urban violence. It utilizes very few instruments and focuses almost exclusively on snare drums and double- or triple-timed hi-hats. Pioneers of the genre include producers Kurtis Mantronik, Mannie Fresh, Shawty Redd, Fatboi, Zaytoven, DJ Screw and Toomp, along with rappers Young Jeezy, Gucci Mane and T.I.
