Moving Castle
The Moving Castle () is a house in Taitung City, Taitung County, Taiwan. History The 4-story house was built by an owner surnamed Lee, who had served in the National Revolutionary Army and fled Mainland China for Taiwan after the end of the Chinese Civil War. He later served the Republic of China Armed Forces and was based in Tainan. His house was constructed over 30 years with materials left abandoned, such as wood, bricks and glass. In July 2016, the house was severely damaged by Typhoon Nepartak. Lee died in January 2017. Architecture The house resembles the house featured in the Japanese movie Howl's Moving Castle. The owner used to live on the second floor and grew vegetables on the third floor. Taitung City
Taitung City () is a county-administered city and the county seat of Taitung County, Taiwan. It lies on the southeast coast of Taiwan facing the Pacific Ocean. Chinese Civil War
The Chinese Civil War was fought between the Kuomintang-led government of the Republic of China and forces of the Chinese Communist Party, continuing intermittently since 1 August 1927 until 7 December 1949 with a Communist victory on mainland China. The war is generally divided into two phases with an interlude: from August 1927 to 1937, the KMT-CCP Alliance collapsed during the Northern Expedition, and the Nationalists controlled most of China. Typhoon Nepartak (2016)
Typhoon Nepartak, known in the Philippines as Super Typhoon Butchoy, was the third most intense tropical cyclone worldwide in 2016. Nepartak severely impacted Taiwan and East China, with 86 confirmed fatalities. It caused 3 deaths and New Taiwan dollar, NT$678 million (United States dollar, US$21 million) of damage in Taiwan. Moreover, Nepartak also had disastrous effects in Fujian, China, causing 111 deaths and Renminbi, ¥9.99 billion (US$1.49 billion) of damage. Howl's Moving Castle (film)
