Mount Unwin
Mount Unwin is a mountain summit located on the west side of Maligne Lake in Jasper National Park, in the Queen Elizabeth Range of the Canadian Rockies of Alberta, Canada. Its nearest higher peak is Mount Brazeau, to the east-southeast. __NOTOC__ History The peak was named in 1908 by Mary Schäffer for her guide and companion, Sidney Unwin, who had climbed the peak in an effort to locate the elusive Maligne Lake which she was trying to find. Mary named many of the mountains around the lake, including Mount Charlton, Maligne Mountain, and Mount Warren. The mountain's name was made official in 1947 by the Geographical Names Board of Canada. Queen Elizabeth Ranges
The Queen Elizabeth Ranges is a group of mountain ranges in the Canadian Rockies on the southeastern side of Jasper National Park, Canada. The northern end of the ranges begins east of Medicine Lake and extends in a southeasterly direction past the southern shore of Maligne Lake. The group was named in 1953 to celebrate the coronation of Elizabeth II as Canada's sovereign. Mount Warren
Mount Warren () is located in the Wind River Range in the U.S. state of Wyoming. The peak is the third peak in the range and the fourth tallest in Wyoming. The summit is located in the Fitzpatrick Wilderness of Shoshone National Forest and rises above several glaciers, the best known being Dinwoody Glacier which is immediately north of the summit tower. The mountain abuts, but is not within, either Bridger National Forest or Sublette County, Wyoming. Hazards Encountering bears is a concern in the Wind River Range. There are other concerns as well, including bugs, wildfires, adverse snow conditions and nighttime cold temperatures. The Whistlers (Alberta)
The Whistlers is a mountain summit located in Jasper National Park, in the Trident Range of the Canadian Rockies of Alberta, Canada. The municipality of Jasper is situated 7 kilometres to the northeast. Its nearest higher peak is Indian Peak, to the southwest. The highest and longest aerial tramway in Canada ascends to a lookout at 2,277 meters elevation, still 193 meters below the summit, but a hiking trail continues to the summit. Monkhead
Monkhead is a mountain summit located at the south end of Maligne Lake in Jasper National Park, in the Canadian Rockies of Alberta, Canada. Monkhead was named by the Alpine Club of Canada for its hood-like appearance similar to a monk. Its nearest higher peak is Mount Warren, to the south-southeast. Monkhead is situated at the far northwest extreme of the Brazeau Icefield. Monkhead abruptly rises in less than from the lake giving it dramatic local relief. Athabasca River
The Athabasca River (French: ''Rivière Athabasca'') is a river in Alberta, Canada, which originates at the Columbia Icefield in Jasper National Park and flows more than before emptying into Lake Athabasca. Maligne River
The Maligne River ( ) is a medium-sized river in the Canadian Rockies. It runs through parts of Jasper National Park in Alberta, Canada. The Maligne is a major tributary of the Athabasca River. The river takes from the French word for malignant or wicked. It is theorised that a Belgian priest (Pieter Jan De Smet ) voyageur created this name in reference to the current of the river near its confluence with the Athabasca River. Geography The Maligne River begins south of Maligne Lake. In meteorology, precipitation is any product of the condensation of atmospheric water vapor that falls under gravitational pull from clouds. The Köppen climate classification is one of the most widely used climate classification systems. Maligne Mountain is a multi-peak massif located east of Maligne Lake in Jasper National Park, in the Canadian Rockies of Alberta, Canada.
