__NOTOC__ Mount Schaffer is a mountain summit located southwest of Lake O'Hara in Yoho National Park, in the Bow Range of the Canadian Rockies of British Columbia, Canada. Its nearest higher peak is Mount Biddle, to the southeast. Mount Schaffer is situated west of the Continental Divide, and southeast of Field, British Columbia. History The mountain was named in 1909 for Mary Schäffer Warren (1861–1939), an American-Canadian naturalist, illustrator, photographer, and writer. Other reports have it being named in 1894 by Samuel E.S. Allen for Dr. Charles Schäffer (1838–1903), who was Mary's husband. The first ascent of the Mount Schaffer was made in 1909 by M. Goddard and W. Richardson. The mountain's name was made official in 1924 when approved by the Geographical Names Board of Canada. Bow Range
The Bow Range is a mountain range of the Canadian Rockies in Alberta and British Columbia, Canada. The range is named in associated with the Bow River and was officially adopted on March 31, 1917 by the Geographic Board of Canada. It is a part of the Banff- Lake Louise Core Area of the Southern Continental Ranges, located on the Continental Divide, west of the Bow River valley, in Banff National Park and Kootenay National Park. The Bow Range covers a surface area of 717 km2 (277 mi2), has a length of 34 km (from north to south) and a maximum width of 43 km. The highest peak is Mount Temple, with an elevation of . Charles Schäffer
Charles Schäffer (February 4, 1838 – November 23, 1903) was an American physician and botanist from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His father, Charles Schäffer, was a wholesale druggist and his mother was Priscilla Morgan, daughter of Stacey K. Potts, an old Philadelphia merchant. His early education was received from a private tutor, who prepared him for the University of Pennsylvania where he graduated in medicine in 1859. He served in the Chester Military Hospital in 1863 and was attending physician at the Mission Hospital and Dispensary from 1874 until its close in 1880. He became interested in the flora of Philadelphia and vicinity and later extended his collecting trips to the Selkirk Mountains of British Columbia amassing a collection of photographs and plants of that region. Wiwaxy Peak
Wiwaxy Peaks is a mountain near Lake O'Hara in Yoho National Park, in the Canadian Rockies of British Columbia, Canada. The Burgess Shale animal '' Wiwaxia corrugata'' is named after it. Elizabeth Parker Hut
The Elizabeth Parker hut is an alpine hut located in Yoho National Park near Lake O'Hara in British Columbia. The hut is maintained by the Alpine Club of Canada. History The hut was named after the alpinist Elizabeth Parker (journalist), Elizabeth Parker, one of the founding members of the Alpine Club of Canada.The log cabin style structures were built in 1912 (Wiwaxy Cabin) and 1919 (main hut). Access The hut can be reached via Lake O'Hara Road, South off the Trans-Canada highway from a parking area. Kicking Horse River
The Kicking Horse River is in the Canadian Rockies of southeastern British Columbia, Canada. The river was named in 1858, when James Hector, a member of the Palliser Expedition, reported being kicked by his packhorse while exploring the river. Hector named the river and the associated pass as a result of the incident. The Kicking Horse Pass, which connects through the Rockies to the valley of the Bow River, was the route through the mountains subsequently taken by the Canadian Pacific Railway when it was constructed during the 1880s. Laramide Orogeny
The Laramide orogeny was a time period of mountain building in western North America, which started in the Late Cretaceous, 70 to 80 million years ago, and ended 35 to 55 million years ago. The exact duration and ages of beginning and end of the orogeny are in dispute. The Laramide orogeny occurred in a series of pulses, with quiescent phases intervening.
