A popular tourist spot, it is renowned for its "perfect cone" because of its symmetric conical shape, and is regarded as very sacred in Philippine mythology. The volcano with its surrounding landscape was declared a national park on July 20, 1938, the first in the nation. It was reclassified as a natural park and renamed the Mayon Volcano Natural Park in 2000."Protected Areas in Region 5"

List Of Mountains In The Philippines
The following is a partial list of mountains in the Philippines. Several of these are List of volcanoes in the Philippines, volcanoes, formed by subduction, subducting tectonic plates surrounding the archipelago. List This list contains most of the highest mountains in the country. It is limited to mountain Summit (topography), peaks with, if known, an elevation of at least above sea level, and may include those considered as hills. The distinction between a hill and a mountain in terms of elevation is unclear and largely subjective, but a hill is universally considered to be less tall and less steep than a mountain. * ''Name'': mountains are sorted according to ''only name''s (without the "Mount" prefix) for easier reference in name and spelling variants. Unnamed peaks are ''italicized''. ''(note: to minimize clutter, citations for names are limited only to mountains with Variant name (geography), variant names, spellings, and/or those that currently do not have elevation da ...

Stratovolcano
A stratovolcano, also known as a composite volcano, is a conical volcano built up by many layers (strata) of hardened lava and tephra. Unlike shield volcanoes, stratovolcanoes are characterized by a steep profile with a summit crater and periodic intervals of explosive eruptions and effusive eruptions, although some have collapsed summit craters called calderas. The lava flowing from stratovolcanoes typically cools and hardens before spreading far, due to high viscosity. The magma forming this lava is often felsic, having high-to-intermediate levels of silica (as in rhyolite, dacite, or andesite), with lesser amounts of less-viscous mafic magma. Extensive felsic lava flows are uncommon, but have travelled as far as . Stratovolcanoes are sometimes called composite volcanoes because of their composite stratified structure, built up from sequential outpourings of erupted materials. They are among the most common types of volcanoes, in contrast to the less common shield volca ...

Quadripoint
A quadripoint is a point on Earth where four distinct territories meet. The territories can be of different types, such as national and provincial. In North America, several such places are commonly known as Four Corners. Several examples exist throughout the world that use other names. Usage The word ''quadripoint'' does not appear in the ''Oxford English Dictionary'' or ''Merriam-Webster Online'', though it has been used since 1964 by the Office of the Geographer of the United States Department of State. and appears in the ''Encyclopædia Britannica'', as well as in the ''World Factbook'' articles on Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, and Zimbabwe, dating as far back as 1990. History An early instance of four political divisions meeting at a point is the Four Shire Stone in Moreton-in-Marsh, England (attested in the Domesday Book, 1086, and mentioned since 969 if not 772); until 1931, it was the meeting point of the English counties of Gloucestershire, Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, an ...

Albay Gulf
Albay Gulf is a large gulf in the Bicol Peninsula of Luzon island in the Philippines. Whale shark sightings The place has been one of the tourist spots in the province because of the frequent sightings of whale sharks (known as ''butanding'' in the local vernacular) in the coastal areas. The government has taken actions requesting concerned sectors to test whether the number of plankton, the whale shark's primary food source, was adequate for the species' sustenance. In 1997, whale sharks were sighted in the town of Donsol in Sorsogon Sorsogon, officially the Province of Sorsogon (Bikol language, Bikol: ''Probinsya kan Sorsogon''; Waray language, Waray: ''Probinsya han Sorsogon''; tl, Lalawigan ng Sorsogon), is a Provinces of the Philippines, province in the Philippines locat .... Ph Locator Albay MAYON Municipalities
In chemistry, pH (), historically denoting "potential of hydrogen" (or "power of hydrogen"), is a scale used to specify the acidity or basicity of an aqueous solution. Acidic solutions (solutions with higher concentrations of ions) are measured to have lower pH values than basic or alkaline solutions. The pH scale is logarithmic and inversely indicates the concentration of hydrogen ions in the solution.Bates, Roger G. ''Determination of pH: theory and practice''. Wiley, 1973. :\ce = - \log(a_\ce) = -\log( ce\ce M) where M = mol dm−3. At 25 °C (77 °F), solutions with a pH less than 7 are acidic, and solutions with a pH greater than 7 are basic. Solutions with a pH of 7 at this temperature are neutral (i.e. have the same concentration of H+ ions as OH− ions, i.e. pure water). The neutral value of the pH depends on the temperaturebeing lower than 7 if the temperature increases above 25 °C. The pH value can be less than 0 for very concentrated strong acids, ...

Ligñon Hill
Ligñon Hill is a prominent hill in the city of Legazpi, some 3 kilometers west of its downtown port area in Albay, Philippines. The summit rises to about 512 feet (156 meters), affording excellent views of the Mayon Volcano to the northwest and the entire city and Albay Gulf to the east. The whole site is managed by the city and provincial government, and has been designated as a Nature Park. Ligñon Hill is a prehistoric cinder cone near the foot of Mayon, some 12 kilometers south-southeast of the volcano's summit. It is mainly composed of dolerite and basaltic volcanic rocks. Except for Mayon Volcano, it is the highest point in the city situated next to the Legazpi Airport in ''barangay'' 41 (Bogtong) near the city's border with the municipality of Daraga. It hosts the Mayon Volcano Observatory, the central monitoring station of the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS, ; tl, Surian ng Pilipin ...

World Heritage Site
A World Heritage Site is a landmark or area with legal protection by an international convention administered by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). World Heritage Sites are designated by UNESCO for having cultural, historical, scientific or other form of significance. The sites are judged to contain " cultural and natural heritage around the world considered to be of outstanding value to humanity". To be selected, a World Heritage Site must be a somehow unique landmark which is geographically and historically identifiable and has special cultural or physical significance. For example, World Heritage Sites might be ancient ruins or historical structures, buildings, cities, deserts, forests, islands, lakes, monuments, mountains, or wilderness areas. A World Heritage Site may signify a remarkable accomplishment of humanity, and serve as evidence of our intellectual history on the planet, or it might be a place of great natural beauty. A ...

National Park
A national park is a nature park, natural park in use for conservation (ethic), conservation purposes, created and protected by national governments. Often it is a reserve of natural, semi-natural, or developed land that a sovereign state declares or owns. Although individual nations designate their own national parks differently, there is a common idea: the conservation of 'wild nature' for posterity and as a symbol of national pride. The United States established the first "public park or pleasuring-ground for the benefit and enjoyment of the people", Yellowstone National Park, in 1872. Although Yellowstone was not officially termed a "national park" in its establishing law, it was always termed such in practice and is widely held to be the first and oldest national park in the world. However, the Tobago Main Ridge Forest Reserve (in what is now Trinidad and Tobago; established in 1776), and the area surrounding Bogd Khan Mountain, Bogd Khan Uul Mountain (Mongolia, 1778), wh ...
