Mount Chual
Mount Chual is a prominent peak in the Santa Cruz Mountains in southwest Santa Clara County, California, United States. The landmark lies west of Morgan Hill, and approximately northeast of Loma Prieta. It is the third highest peak in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Several tributaries to Llagas Creek originate on the southern and eastern flanks of the peak. Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve
Sierra Azul Open Space Preserve is managed by the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District in Santa Clara County, California. It is approximately in area. The preserve is named for the Sierra Azul or "Blue Mountains", the name the colonizing Spanish used for the half of the Santa Cruz Mountains south of today's California Highway 17. The park features the peaks of Mount Umunhum , Mount Thayer , and El Sombroso peak . El Sombroso is about north by northeast of Mount Umunhum. Trails connect from Lexington Reservoir, on the western edge of the park, to Hicks Road on the eastern edge. The preserve protects the upper watersheds of two important tributaries of the Guadalupe River. The upper headwaters of Los Gatos Creek originate just south of Loma Prieta, wrapping around the preserve on the western side before emptying into Lexington Reservoir. Goosefoot
''Chenopodium'' is a genus of numerous species of perennial or annual herbaceous flowering plants known as the goosefoots, which occur almost anywhere in the world. It is placed in the family Amaranthaceae in the APG II system; older classification systems, notably the widely used Cronquist system, separate it and its relatives as Chenopodiaceae, but this leaves the rest of the Amaranthaceae polyphyletic. However, among the Amaranthaceae, the genus ''Chenopodium'' is the namesake member of the subfamily Chenopodioideae. Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority
The Santa Clara Valley Open Space Authority (OSA) is an independent special district in Santa Clara County, California, U.S. A bill signed by Governor Wilson in 1992, SB2027, created the district as the Santa Clara County Open Space Preserve as of February 1, 1993. In 2015, Governor Jerry Brown signed California Senate Bill SB422 to rename the authority with "Valley" instead of "County." The OSA serves areas of the county outside the Midpeninsula Regional Open Space District with the exception of Gilroy. The OSA uses $4.2 million per year from a $12-per-parcel property-tax assessment to hire rangers and to open land to the public. Llagas Creek
Llagas Creek is a perennial stream in Santa Clara County, California, United States. The headwaters rise on the eastern side of Crystal Peak near Loma Prieta. From there, the creek flows northeast along Casa Loma Road, until it reaches Uvas Road, and then turns south. At Oak Glen Avenue, the creek turns southeast, passing through Chesbro Reservoir, and the cities of Morgan Hill, San Martin, and Gilroy. The creek continues its southward flow, eventually joining with the Pajaro River at the San Benito County line. The lower Llagas Creek, south of Gilroy, passes through a system of percolation ponds ( Lower Miller Slough) which are used to treat wastewater in the area.
