''Mosaic'' is the twelfth studio album by the American rock band 311. Released on June 23, 2017, it is the band's first album to be released by the label BMG, their first to be produced by John Feldmann, and their fourth to be produced by Scotch Ralston. The track listing was revealed by Pledge Music on April 10, 2017. Singles "Too Much to Think" was released as the first official single on March 11, 2017. "Too Late" was released as the first promotional single on April 13, 2017, and second, "Perfect Mistake," was released on June 9, 2017. "Too Late" made its radio debut in Los Angeles, California on May 23, 2017 on KLOS. "'Til the City's on Fire" was released as the second official single on August 8, 2017. Composition Sam Mendez at Ultimate Guitar labeled ''Mosaic'' as alternative rock and reggae rock. Glenn Gamboa from Newsday characterized it as rap rock. 311 (pronounced "three eleven") is an American rock band from Omaha, Nebraska. The band was formed in 1988 by vocalist and guitarist Nick Hexum, lead guitarist Jim Watson, bassist Aaron "P-Nut" Wills, and drummer Chad Sexton. Watson was replaced by Tim Mahoney in 1990. In 1992, Doug "SA" Martinez joined to sing and provide turntables. 311 has released thirteen studio albums, two live albums, four compilation albums, four EPs and four DVDs. After a series of independent releases, 311 was signed to Capricorn Records in 1992 and released the albums ''Music'' (1993) and '' Grassroots'' (1994) to moderate success. They achieved greater success with their 1995 triple platinum self-titled album, which reached number 12 on the ''Billboard'' 200 on the strength of the singles " Down" and " All Mixed Up", the former of which topped the ''Billboard'' Hot Modern Rock Tracks in 1996. Evan David Taubenfeld (born June 27, 1983) is an American singer and musician, best known for being Avril Lavigne's lead guitarist, music director and frequent collaborator. Taubenfeld's debut album, '' Welcome to the Blacklist Club'', was released in 2010. Early life Taubenfeld was born in Baltimore, Maryland, to Mark and Ami Taubenfeld, who ran a catering business. He has two siblings, a younger brother named Drew (b. 1984), who is a multi-instrumentalist and musical director for Kacey Musgraves, and a younger sister, Annie (b. 1990). Taubenfeld graduated from McDonogh School in 2001. Taubenfeld had an early interest in music and took an interest at the piano at home as a toddler. Nicholas Lofton Hexum (born April 12, 1970) is an American singer, songwriter and rapper, currently the vocalist and guitarist for the multi-platinum alternative rock band 311 and The Nick Hexum Quintet. Early life Born in Madison, Wisconsin, to father Dr. Terry Hexum and mother Pat, Hexum went to Westside High School in Omaha, Nebraska. There, he played in the school's concert jazz band, and was a member of several local bands like The Extras, The Eds, and The Right Profile. In 1988, Hexum moved to Los Angeles to pursue music with his band Unity, including Chad Sexton, Ward Bones, and Marcus Watkins. However, this group soon parted ways. Hexum moved to Germany for a brief stint in 1990; while there, he got a call from Sexton, who was back in Omaha. Sexton's band Fish Hippos had a gig with Fugazi and he invited Hexum to join the band. Album-equivalent Unit
The album-equivalent unit, or album equivalent, is a measurement unit in music industry to define the consumption of music that equals the purchase of one album copy. This consumption includes streaming and song downloads in addition to traditional album sales. The album-equivalent unit was introduced in the mid- 2010s as an answer to the drop of album sales in the 21st century. Album sales more than halved from 1999 to 2009, declining from a $14.6 to $6.3 billion industry.
