Morawelon
Morawelon ( cy, Môrawelon) is an area and community electoral ward in the town of Holyhead, Anglesey, Wales. In 2011 the ward had a population of 1,504. The Eaton Electrical factory was based in Morawelon from 1961. When its closure was announced, to relocate to Eastern Europe with the loss of 265 jobs, nobody other than the workforce led the fight (unsuccessfully) to keep the factory open. It was to close by December 2009. Electoral ward Until 2012 the electoral ward sent a councillor to the Isle of Anglesey County Council. Following the Isle of Anglesey electoral boundary changes Morawelon became part of a larger Caergybi ward, which includes three other wards of the Holyhead community. It remains a community ward for the Holyhead Town Council. The Isle of Anglesey County Council ( cy, Cyngor Sir Ynys Môn) is the local authority for the county of Anglesey, one of the principal areas of Wales. Since 2022 the council has 35 councillors who represent 11 multi-member electoral wards. History The first county council for Anglesey was created in 1889 under the Local Government Act 1888, which established elected county councils to take over the administrative functions of the quarter sessions. The original county council did not include "Isle of" in its name, simply being called "Anglesey County Council". The Isle of Anglesey electoral boundary changes in 2012 reduced the numbers of electoral wards to the Isle of Anglesey County Council from 40 to 11. This led to the postponement of local government elections in the county by 12 months. The changes were confirmed by the Isle of Anglesey (Electoral Arrangements) Order 2012 in October 2012. The changes were based on proposals by the Local Government Boundary Commission for Wales, after a review was ordered by the Welsh Government's Minister for Social Justice and Local Government, Carl Sargeant, in March 2012. The Commission proposed replacing the 40 electoral wards, which had elected one county councillor each, with eleven multi-member wards electing 30 county councillors in total. Holyhead Town Council
Holyhead Town Council is an elected community council serving the town of Holyhead in Anglesey, Wales. Background Holyhead Town Council was created in 1974 with the demise of Holyhead Urban District Council and the transfer of many of its powers to Anglesey Borough Council (later Isle of Anglesey County Council). The town council's responsibilities include maintaining the town's six playing fields, Maeshyfryd Cemetery, allotments, bus shelters, noticeboards, as well as the left luggage facilities at the port. The council manages the Town Hall and has leased the old Empire Cinema building to create a Soft Play Centre and a Laser Quest for children. In 2017 the Town Council took over Holyhead's Pavilion and park from Anglesey County Council. Holyhead (,; cy, Caergybi , "Cybi's fort") is the largest town and a community in the county of Isle of Anglesey, Wales, with a population of 13,659 at the 2011 census. Ynys Môn (Senedd Constituency)
Ynys Môn is a constituency of the Senedd. It elects one Member of the Senedd by the first past the post method of election. Also, however, it is one of nine constituencies in the North Wales electoral region, which elects four additional members, in addition to nine constituency members, to produce a degree of proportional representation for the region as a whole. It was represented from 1999 by Ieuan Wyn Jones, the former leader of Plaid Cymru. Jones resigned from the Assembly on 20 June 2013, triggering a by-election, which was held on 1 August 2013.
