Missouri Route 122
Route 122 is a short highway in central Missouri. Its eastern terminus is at Route 41 in Fairville (the only town on the route), which is halfway between Miami and Marshall. The western terminus is at Van Meter State Park. The total length of the highway is about five miles (8 km). Route description Route 122 begins within Van Meter State Park in Saline County, where the road continues north as VM Pinnacle Drive. From the western terminus, the route heads south as a two-lane undivided road, passing through wooded areas of the state park. The road leaves Van Meter State Park and enters agricultural areas. Route 122 turns to the east and continues to its eastern terminus at Route 41. Past this intersection, the road continues east as Route NN. Marshall is a city in Saline County, Missouri, Saline County, Missouri, United States. The population was 13,065 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Saline County. The Marshall Micropolitan Statistical Area consists of Saline County. It is home to Missouri Valley College. History Sixty-five acres of land for the city of Marshall was donated by Jeremiah O’Dell, deeded on April 13, 1839. It was named for the United States Supreme Court Chief Justice, John Marshall, when chosen for the county seat. After the first two courthouses in Marshall were lost to fires, the Saline County Courthouse was constructed in January 1882; it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1977. The courthouse is an enduring landmark in the center of the Marshall Square, and a legacy of Nineteenth-Century architecture. Saline County is located along the Missouri River in the U.S. state of Missouri. As of the 2010 census, the population was 23,370. Its county seat is Marshall. The county was established November 25, 1820, and named for the region's salt springs. Settled primarily by migrants from the Upper South during the nineteenth century, this county was in the region bordering the Missouri River known as " Little Dixie". In the antebellum years, it had many plantations operated with the forced labor of enslaved workers.
