Mirna Ortiz
Mirna Sucely Ortiz Flores (born 28 February 1987) is a Guatemalan racewalker. Having begun in the sport in 1998, she won a Central American youth title in 2000, and was a promising young athlete in her discipline, but due to financial hardship, she had to abandon the sport at the age of 14. She then returned to a competitive level in 2011, urged by coach Rigoberto Medina. Her return proved to be fruitful as in September 2011 she earned second place in the National Polish Championship in Varsovia, thereby qualifying for the 2012 Olympic Games, and a few weeks later she won the silver medal at the 2011 Pan American Games, behind her compatriot Jamy Franco in a race they both led from start to end. On 18 March 2012 she set the 20 km record for the North, Central American, and Caribbean region at 1:28:54 at the Memorial Mario Albisetti in Lugano, Switzerland, where she came in second. 2011 Pan American Games
The 2011 Pan American Games, officially the XVI Pan American Games, was an international multi-sport event that was held from October 14–30, 2011, in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. Some events were held in the nearby cities of Ciudad Guzmán, Puerto Vallarta, Lagos de Moreno and Tapalpa. It was the largest multi-sport event of 2011, with approximately 6,000 athletes from 42 nations participating in 36 sports. The Central American Race Walking Championships (''Spanish: Campeonato Centroamericano de Marcha'') is an annual race walking competition organized by CADICA for athletes representing the countries of its member associations. The event was established in 2007 as Central American Race Walking Cup (''Spanish: Copa Centroamericana de Marcha''). The name was changed in 2012. During the Parade of Nations within the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics opening ceremony, which took place on 23 July 2021, athletes and officials from each participating team entered the Olympic Stadium preceded by their flag and placard bearer. Each flag bearer will have been chosen either by the team's National Olympic Committee or by the athletes themselves. For the first time, each team had the option to allow two flag bearers, one male and one female, in an effort to promote gender equality. These Olympics were postponed from 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
