Samoa

Eugene Paul
Eugene Friedrich Paul (3 November 1901 – 28 December 1971) was a Western Samoan businessman and politician. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly in two spells between 1948 and 1961, was the first Leader of Government Business in 1958, and held the posts of Minister of Economic Development and Minister of Finance between 1957 and 1961. Fred Betham
Gustav Frederick Dertag Betham (11 April 1915 – 31 March 1984), also known by the Samoan name Fereti Misipita, was a Western Samoan politician and diplomat. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly from 1948 to 1971 and as Minister of Finance from 1961 to 1970. In 1971 he was appointed Secretary General of the South Pacific Commission, a role he held for four years. Tofa Siaosi
Tuatagaloa Tofa Siaosi (died June 1981) was a Western Samoan politician. He served as a member of the Legislative Assembly from 1967 until 1973 and was Minister of Finance between 1970 and 1973. Biography Born George Nauer, the son of politician Thomas Nauer, he was educated in New Zealand. Vaovasamanaia Filipo
Vaovasamanaia Reginald Filipo (also known as Reginald Paul Phillips) (died 1993) was a Samoan politician, Cabinet Minister, and Judge. He was the first Samoan appointed Chief Justice of Samoa. Vaovasamanaia Reginald was the husband of Samoan politician Faimaala Filipo. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Samoa in the 1973 election, winning the seat of Palauli West which had previously been held by his wife. In 1975 he was appointed Minister of Agriculture in the Cabinet of Tupua Tamasese. He was re-elected at the 1976 election and appointed Minister of Finance in the government of Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi, a role he held until 1982. Tofilau Eti Alesana, AC, born Aualamalefalelima Alesana (4 June 1924 – 19 March 1999) was a Samoan politician who served as the fifth prime minister of Samoa from 1982 to 1985, and again from 1988 until his resignation in 1998. Misa Telefoni Retzlaff (born Hermann Theodor Retzlaff, 21 May 1952) is a Samoan author and retired politician who served as the deputy prime minister of Samoa and deputy leader of the Human Rights Protection Party from 2001 to 2011. A member of the Human Rights Protection Party, Retzlaff was also minister of finance from 2006 to 2011. Tapunuu Niko Lee Hang (1953/1954 – 29 November 2022) was a Samoan politician and Cabinet Minister. He was a member of the Human Rights Protection Party. Hang was an accountant by profession and a former Public Trustee. He was educated at Waikato University in New Zealand and the University of New England in Australia. He was first elected to the Legislative Assembly of Samoa as one of two parliamentary representatives reserved for Individual Voters in a by-election in December 2001. Faumuina Tiatia Faaolatane Liuga (born 19 September 1945) is a Samoan politician and former Cabinet Minister. He is a member of the Human Rights Protection Party. Faumuina was born in Papa i Palauli and educated at Leulumoega Fou College Malua in Samoa. He studied economics at the University of Samoa from 1982 to 1984, and in 1999 gained an MBA from the unaccredited Washington International University. From 1967 to 1997 he worked for the United Nations Development Programme, serving in Samoa, the Philippines, Fiji, Sudan, Bangladesh, Vietnam and Pakistan. From 1997 to 1998 he worked as Chief Administrator for the UN Oil-for-Food Programme in Iraq. Sili Epa Tuioti is a Samoan politician and Cabinet of Samoa, Cabinet Minister. He is a member of the Human Rights Protection Party. Tuioti studied for two years at Rhema Bible Training school. He is a former career public servant who served as Head of Treasury from 1991 to 1999. He later worked as a consultant.
