Mikhail Antipov
Mikhail Aleksandrovich Antipov (russian: Михаил Александрович Антипов; born 10 June 1997) is a Russian chess grandmaster. Chess career At the age of 15, Antipov was awarded the title of Master of Sports of Russia. He earned his first grandmaster norm when he won the First Saturday tournament in December 2011, his second grandmaster norm at the international tournament in Sarajevo in May 2012 and achieved his third grandmaster norm at Riga Technical University Open in August 2013, where he shared third place. Antipov was officially awarded his grandmaster title in October 2013, which at the age of 16, made him the youngest grandmaster in Russia at the time. In 2014, he was a bronze medalist in the Spain chess team championship. In 2015, Antipov won the under-20 World Junior Chess Championship, which was held in Khanty-Mansiysk. Grandmaster (chess)
Grandmaster (GM) is a title awarded to chess players by the world chess organization FIDE. Apart from World Champion, Grandmaster is the highest title a chess player can attain. Once achieved, the title is held for life, though exceptionally it has been revoked for cheating. The title of Grandmaster, along with the lesser FIDE titles of International Master (IM) and FIDE Master (FM), is open to all players regardless of gender. The great majority of grandmasters are men, but 40 women have been awarded the GM title as of 2022, out of a total of about 2000 grandmasters. Since about the year 2000, most of the top 10 women have held the GM title. There is also a Woman Grandmaster title with lower requirements awarded only to women. Master of Sports of Russia (MS) (russian: Мастер спорта России (МС)) is a sports honorary title in the Russian Federation and a direct successor to the similar Soviet classification system. First Saturday () is a monthly chess event that has been held in Budapest, Hungary since 1992. The primary purpose of the event is to give aspiring chess players opportunities to gain FIDE title norms. Format The event begins on the first Saturday of every month, except for January. Generally four separate round-robin tournaments are held concurrently, usually with ten players in each group. They are divided into the Grandmaster tournament, the International Master tournament, the FIDE Master-A tournament and the FIDE Master-B tournament. The Grandmaster tournament offers opportunities for players to gain Grandmaster and International Master norms. In order to do this, the tournament must meet certain conditions, as laid out in FIDE's regulations. Riga Technical University Open (also RTU Open) is international "open" chess festival, annually held in Riga, Latvia in August. It is the largest classical chess tournament in the Baltic states. Abstract The Riga Technical University Open is held since 2011, with the exception of the year 2020 due to global pandemic, subsequently the 10th jubilee edition followed in summer 2021. World Junior Chess Championship
The World Junior Chess Championship is an under-20 chess tournament (players must have been under 20 years old on 1 January in the year of competition) organized by the World Chess Federation (FIDE). The idea was the brainchild of William Ritson-Morry, who organized the 1951 inaugural event to take place in Birmingham, England. Subsequently, it was held every two years until 1973, when an annual schedule was adopted. In 1983, a separate tournament for girls was established. Each FIDE member nation may select one entrant except for the host nation, which may select two. Some players are seeded into the tournament based on Elo rating and top finishes in previous championships. The first championship was an 11-round Swiss system tournament. In subsequent championships, the entrants were divided into sections, and preliminary sectional tournaments were used to establish graded finals sections (Final A, Final B, etc.).
