Miguel Gomes (film Director)
Miguel Gomes (born 1972) is a Portuguese film director. He studied cinema at Lisbon Theatre and Film School (Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema). Biography Trained at the Escola Superior de Teatro e Cinema (Superior School of Theatre and Film Lisbon), Gomes worked initially as a film critic and author of theoretical writings on cinema. His films include ''The Face You Deserve'' (2004), ''Our Beloved Month of August'' (2008) and ''Tabu'' (2012). ''Tabu'' was a winner of the Alfred Bauer Prize for Artistic Innovation and the FIPRESCI Jury Prize at the 2012 Berlin International Film Festival. His 2015 film ''Arabian Nights'' was screened as part of the Directors' Fortnight section at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. The Directors' Fortnight (french: Quinzaine des Réalisateurs) is an independent selection of the Cannes Film Festival. It was started in 1969 by the French Directors Guild after the events of May 1968 resulted in cancellation of the Cannes festival as an act of solidarity with striking workers. 2015 Cannes Film Festival
The 68th Cannes Film Festival was held from 13 to 24 May 2015. Joel and Ethan Coen were the Presidents of the Jury for the main competition. It was the first time that two people chaired the jury. Since the Coen brothers each received a separate vote, they were joined by seven other jurors to form the customary nine-juror panel. French actor Lambert Wilson was the host for the opening and closing ceremonies. The Palme d'Or was awarded to the French film ''Dheepan'' directed by Jacques Audiard. The Alfred Bauer Prize was an annual film award, presented by the Berlin International Film Festival, as part of its Silver Bear series of awards, to a film that "opens new perspectives on cinematic art". The prize was suspended in 2020 after it was revealed that the founding director of the festival Alfred Bauer had been an active high-ranking Nazi closely involved in a propaganda organisation set up by Joseph Goebbels.
