Mickey Edwards (cricketer)
Michael William Edwards (born 23 December 1994) is an Australian cricketer. He represents New South Wales in the JLT Cup and Sheffield Shield competitions. When not representing the Blues, he represents Manly Warringah District Cricket Club in Sydney Grade Cricket. He attended St Augustine's College. He first rose to fame filling in as substitute fielder during the fifth day of the third test between Australia and Pakistan at the Sydney Cricket Ground in January 2017. Due to his 198 cm tall figure and long blond hair, the crowd immediately embraced him as a new cult hero and began to cheer every time he fielded the ball. A substitute in the sport of cricket is a replacement player that the umpires allow when a player has been injured or become ill, after the nomination of the players at the start of the game. The rules for substitutes appear in Law 24 of the ''Laws of Cricket''. Overview A substitute can act for the injured or ill player in the field, although they may not bowl, bat or act as captain, unless otherwise agreed by the captains. A player may bat, bowl and field even if he has had a substitute for part of the game, though they need to wait for a period equal to their time off the field until they bat or bowl again. 2017–18 Big Bash League Season
The 2017–18 Big Bash League season or BBL, 07 was the seventh season of the KFC Big Bash League, the professional men's Twenty20 domestic cricket competition in Australia. The tournament started on 19 December 2017 and finished on 4 February 2018. Perth Scorchers were the defending champions. The competition was extended to a total of 40 group games for the first time, each team playing ten matches in the group. The title was won by Adelaide Strikers (their first ever and sole BBL title until now), who defeated Hobart Hurricanes at the Adelaide Oval. Twenty20 (T20) is a shortened game format of cricket. At the professional level, it was introduced by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in 2003 for the inter-county competition. In a Twenty20 game, the two teams have a single innings each, which is restricted to a maximum of 20 overs. Together with first-class and List A cricket, Twenty20 is one of the three current forms of cricket recognised by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as being at the highest international or domestic level. A typical Twenty20 game is completed in about two and a half hours, with each innings lasting around 70 minutes and an official 10-minute break between the innings. 2017–18 JLT One-Day Cup
The 2017 JLT One-Day Cup was the 48th season of the official List A domestic cricket competition in Australia. It was played over a four-week period at the start of the domestic season to separate its schedule from the Sheffield Shield season. The tournament was held in Sydney, Brisbane, Perth and Hobart, with all 23 matches to be broadcast live on the Cricket Australia website and app. It was the first time in more than a decade that neither the Nine Network nor Fox Sports (Australia) have hosted a television broadcast of the tournament. The tournament was sponsored by Jardine Lloyd Thompson. New South Wales were the defending champions. They were eliminated from the tournament after losing their final group fixture to Victoria, when the match was abandoned due to an unsafe pitch.
