Michele Borghetti
Michele Borghetti (born 13 March 1973) is an Italian grandmaster of international draughts, Italian draughts and English draughts (also known as "American checkers" or "straight checkers"). In English draughts he was world champion in both 3-move and GAYP variations. Borghetti won the 2010 WCDF World Qualifier to earn the right to challenge defending champion Alex Moiseyev in the 2011 3-Move World Title Match. The match took place in Cleveland and was won by Moiseyev. At the 2012 World Mind Sports Games in Lille, Borghetti won the gold medal in the checkers tournament, which was doubled as the World Qualifying Tournament. This victory enabled him to qualify again for the world title match with Moiseyev and on 28 June 2013, Borghetti became the 3-Move Checkers World Champion. In 2015 he successfully defended his world title against Lubabalo Kondlo in Livorno, his native city. International Draughts
International draughts (also called international checkers or Polish draughts) is a Abstract strategy, strategy board game for two players, one of the variants of draughts. The gameboard comprises 10×10 squares in alternating dark and light colours, of which only the 50 dark squares are used. Each player has 20 pieces, light for one player and dark for the other, at opposite sides of the board. In conventional diagrams, the board is displayed with the light pieces at the bottom; in this orientation, the lower-left corner square must be dark. History According to Draughts historians, draughts historian Arie van der Stoep, the 100 square draughts board came into use in the Netherlands between 1550 and 1600, and the number of pieces was extended to 2x20 between 1650 and 1700. The Fédération Mondiale du Jeu de Dames (FMJD, World Draughts Federation) is the international body uniting national draughts federations. It was founded in 1947 by four Federations: France, the Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland. Members Currently, the FMJD has more than 70 national federation members in 2021. Petal, Mississippi
Petal is a city in Forrest County, Mississippi, along the Leaf River. It is part of the Hattiesburg, Mississippi Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population was 10,454 in the 2010 census, increasing to 11,010 in the 2020 census. History The first postmaster of Petal was Irving A. Polk. The post office was established in 1903 and was named after the daughter of a first settler. It is the only city in the U.S. with this name. Petal separated from the city of Hattiesburg on April 4, 1974. Petal was a community filled with farmers. This is slowly changing with new businesses coming into the city. Sergio Scarpetta (born 12 June 1975 in Cerignola) is an Italian grandmaster of English draughts (also known as checkers) and the current world champion in the 3-move version. He was world champion in the GAYP version from 2014 to 2016. Scarpetta first played in international competitions in 2011. At the 2012 World Mind Sports Games in Lille, France, he won the silver medal in the checkers event, which doubled as the world qualifying tournament for the 3-Move World Championship 2013. In 2014, he won the match for the GAYP World Champion title, held in Manfredonia, against Barbadian Ron King. In December of the same year, Scarpetta won the silver medal in the checkers competition at the SportAccord World Mind Games in Beijing. Italian draughts ( it, Dama italiana) is a variant of the draughts family played mainly in Italy and Northern Africa. It is a two-handed game played on a board consisting of sixty-four squares, thirty-two white and thirty-two black. There are twenty-four pieces: twelve white and twelve black. The board is placed so that the rightmost square on both sides of the board is black. Gameplay White always moves first, and players alternate moving. Men (called ''pedine''—a single man is called ''pedina'') move one square diagonally forward. Lubabalo Nicholas Kondlo (born December 21, 1971) is a player of English draughts (also known as American checkers) from South Africa. He holds the title of grandmaster, and is the current world champion in the GAYP (go as you please) version. Career Born in New Brigton, Port Elizabeth, Kondlo started to play draughts at the age of seven years. In 2007, he won the World Qualifier in Las Vegas, United States and became the first draughts grandmaster from Africa. His match against Ron King in 2008 for the world champion title in the GAYP version was the subject of the documentary ''King Me''.
