Michel Bélanger
Michel Bélanger, (September 10, 1929 – December 1, 1997) was a Canadian businessman and banker. He was an economic adviser to René Lévesque and helped to nationalize electricity. He was the first Francophone to become president of the Montreal stock exchange. From 1976 until 1979, he was President of the Provincial Bank of Canada. After the Provincial Bank of Canada merged with Banque Canadienne Nationale to form the National Bank of Canada, he became the first President of the merged organization. As a federalist, he was co-chairman of the Commission on the Political and Constitutional Future of Quebec, known as the Belanger-Campeau Commission. Lévis, Quebec
Lévis () is a city in eastern Quebec, Canada, located on the south shore of the St. Lawrence River, opposite Quebec City. A ferry links Old Quebec with Old Lévis, and two bridges, the Quebec and the Pierre-Laporte, connect western Lévis with Quebec City. The population in July 2017 was 144,147. Its current incarnation was founded on January 1, 2002, as the result of a merger among ten cities, including the older city of Lévis founded in 1861. René Lévesque
René Lévesque (; August 24, 1922 – November 1, 1987) was a Québécois politician and journalist who served as the 23rd premier of Quebec from 1976 to 1985. He was the first Québécois political leader since Confederation to attempt, through a referendum, to negotiate the political independence of Quebec. Starting his career as a reporter, and radio and television host, he later became known for his eminent role in Quebec's nationalization of hydro, and as an ardent defender of Quebec sovereignty. He was the founder of the Parti Québécois, and before that, a Liberal minister in the Lesage government from 1960 to 1966. Hydro-Québec
Hydro-Québec is a public utility that manages the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity in the Canadian province of Quebec, as well as the export of power to portions of the Northeast United States.
