Michael Cleary (hurler)
Michael Cleary (born 16 August 1966) is a former Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Nenagh Éire Óg and with the Tipperary senior inter-county team in the 1980s and 1990s. Early life Michael Cleary was born in Nenagh, County Tipperary in 1966. He is the only son of Peg and James Cleary, he was educated locally and later worked in the family newsagent and restaurant. He has two sisters. Playing career Club Cleary played his club hurling with his local Nenagh Éire Óg club and enjoyed much success. In the 1980s he won under-16 and under-21 county medals with the club, as well as North Tipperary, county junior medals and a senior League Division medal. In 1995 Cleary won his only senior county title. Nenagh reached the Munster club final in that year but lost to Sixmilebridge of Clare. Nenagh Éire Óg GAA is a Tipperary GAA club which is located in County Tipperary, Ireland. Both hurling and Gaelic football are played in the "North-Tipperary" divisional competitions. The club is centred on the town of Nenagh. All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship 1991
The 1991 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship was the 105th staging of the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship, the Gaelic Athletic Association's premier inter-county hurling tournament. The championship began on 19 May 1991 and ended on 1 September 1991. Cork were the defending champions but were defeated by Tipperary in the Munster final replay. Westmeath qualified for the All-Ireland quarter-final as winners of the B championship. On 1 September 1991, Tipperary won the championship following a 1–16 to 0–15 defeat of Kilkenny in the All-Ireland final. This was their 24th All-Ireland title, their second in three championship seasons. Tipperary's Michael Cleary was the championship's top scorer with 3-35. Michael O'Meara
Michael O'Meara (born 4 February 1969) is a former Irish sportsperson. He played hurling with his local club Toomevara and with the Tipperary senior inter-county team in the 1990s. Career O'Meara was a non-playing substitute as Tipperary won the 1991 All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship with victory against Kilkenny by 1–16 to 0–15 in the final. In 1993 he captained Tipperary to win the 1993 Munster Senior Hurling Championship after a 3–27 to 2–12 win against Clare at the Gaelic Grounds. This article lists players who have recently captained the Tipperary county hurling team in the Munster Senior Hurling Championship and the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Championship. The captain is normally chosen from the club that has won the Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship. This did not happen in 1989. In that year Loughmore Castleiney were the reigning county hurling champions but did not hold the captaincy during the championship as none of their players were deemed good enough to make the team. In 1989 therefore Pat McGrath of Loughmore Castleiney was the captain during the National Hurling League and Bobby Ryan of Borris-Ileigh was the captain during the Championship. George Frend
George Frend (born 1970) is an Irish former hurling, hurler. At club level he played with Toomevara GAA, Toomevara, and also lined out at inter-county level with various Tipperary GAA, Tipperary teams. Career Frend first played hurling at juvenile and underage levels with the Toomevara GAA, Toomevara club, winning numerous championship titles from under-12 up to under-21 level. He later won three successive Tipperary Senior Hurling Championship, Tipperary SHC medals from 1992 to 1994. The second of these victories was later converted into a Munster Senior Club Hurling Championship, Munster Club SHC title, before later losing the 1994 All-Ireland Senior Club Hurling Championship final, 1994 All-Ireland club final to Sarsfields GAA (Galway), Sarsfields. Railway Cup
The GAA Interprovincial Championship ( ga, An Corn Idir-Chúigeach) or Railway Cup (''Corn an Iarnróid'') is the name of two annual Gaelic football and hurling competitions held between the provinces of Ireland. The Connacht, Leinster, Munster and Ulster GAA teams are composed of the best players from the counties in each province. The games are organised by the Gaelic Athletic Association. The Railway Cup was a revival of the Railway Shield which ran from 1905 to 1907 (football) and from 1905 to 1908 (hurling). The first Railway Cup competitions (the name is due to the donation of the trophy by Irish Rail) were held in 1927, with Munster winning the first football title and Leinster winning the first hurling title.
