Michael Carpenter (tennis)
Michael Arthur Carpenter (born September 18, 1936 in Birmingham, England) is a Canadian former tennis player. Carpenter won the Canadian Open 1966 doubles title playing alongside his younger brother, and more accomplished player, Keith Carpenter. Carpenter played tennis for McGill University in his hometown of Montreal. Tennis
Tennis is a racket sport that is played either individually against a single opponent ( singles) or between two teams of two players each ( doubles). Each player uses a tennis racket that is strung with cord to strike a hollow rubber ball covered with felt over or around a net and into the opponent's court. The object of the game is to manoeuvre the ball in such a way that the opponent is not able to play a valid return. The player who is unable to return the ball validly will not gain a point, while the opposite player will. Tennis is an Olympic sport and is played at all levels of society and at all ages. Canadian Open (tennis)
The Canadian Open (french: Tournoi de tennis du Canada), also known as the Canada Masters, and currently branded as the National Bank Open presented by Rogers for sponsorship reasons, is an annual tennis tournament held in Ontario and Quebec. The men's competition is a Masters 1000 event on the ATP Tour, and the women's competition is a WTA 1000 tournament on the WTA Tour. The competition is played on outdoor hard courts. Prior to 2011, they were held during separate weeks in the July–August period; now the two competitions are held during the same week in August. The events alternate from year to year between the cities of Montreal and Toronto. Since 2021 in even-numbered years the men's tournament is held in Montreal, while the women's tournament is held in Toronto, and vice versa in odd-numbered years. Keith Carpenter
Keith A. Carpenter (born August 3, 1941) was one of Canada's top men's tennis players during the 1960s. Tennis career Overview Carpenter's best result was winning the Canadian Open Men's Doubles Championship in 1966 alongside his older brother, Michael Carpenter. It was their first and only Grand Slam Event win for both brothers' careers and a proud moment in Canadian tennis history. Fourth round in singles of the 1965 U.S. Nationals. The year before he also reached the third round. Carpenter reached the second round at Wimbledon every year from 1963, his first appearance in the main draw, which he reached through qualifying, through 1966.
