Shell Sort
Shellsort, also known as Shell sort or Shell's method, is an in-place comparison sort. It can be seen as either a generalization of sorting by exchange ( bubble sort) or sorting by insertion (insertion sort). The method starts by sorting pairs of elements far apart from each other, then progressively reducing the gap between elements to be compared. By starting with far apart elements, it can move some out-of-place elements into position faster than a simple nearest neighbor exchange. Donald Shell published the first version of this sort in 1959. The running time of Shellsort is heavily dependent on the gap sequence it uses. Helmut Metzner (15 September 1925, Osnabrück, Germany – 20 September 1999, Tübingen, Germany) was a plant physiology, plant physiologist, Professor of Biochemical Plant Physiology at University of Tübingen, the founder of the European Academy of Environmental Affairs and a co-founder of the Weikersheim Think Tank. Franz Metzner (18 November 1870, Wscherau, near Plzeň – 24 March 1919, Berlin) was an influential German sculptor, particularly his sculptural figures integrated into the architecture of Central European public buildings in the Art Nouveau / Jugendstil / Vienna Secession period. His style is difficult to classify. Biography Metzer learned the craft of stone-cutting in Breslau with Christian Behrens and did apprenticeships in Saxony through 1894. He founded his own studio in Berlin in 1896 and worked predominantly for the royal porcelain factory until 1903, and became a professor at the Vienna college of arts and sciences. Metzner achieved fame by winning a gold medal at the Paris Exposition Universelle (1900). Karl-Heinz "Gala" Metzner (9 January 1923 – 25 October 1994) was a German footballer. He was born in Kassel. He was part of the West German team that won the 1954 FIFA World Cup. In total he earned two caps for West Germany. During his club career he played for Hessen Kassel. Already at the age of 17, Metzner took part in an instruction training of the German national team, however World War II stopped Metzner's aspirations; Metzner had to serve in the war where he received a hand injury, which handicapped him throughout the rest of his life. Sheila Metzner (born 1939) is an American photographer. She was the first female photographer to collaborate with ''Vogue'' magazine on an ongoing basis. Metzner lives in Brooklyn, New York. Early life Metzner graduated from the High School of Art and Design and the Faculty of Visual Communications of the Pratt Institute. In the 1960s, she became the first woman to be promoted to art director by Doyle Dane Bernbach, an advertising agency.
