Meridian Dan
Meridian Dan (born Daniel Lawrence London) is a grime MC from Tottenham, North London. He is best known for his 2014 single " German Whip", and is a former member of seminal grime crews Meridian and Bloodline. Background Lawrence, who is of Guyanese descent, first started MCing at age 10, having had music around him throughout his childhood and being inspired by hip-hop and reggae. Jme and Big H, who both feature on "German Whip", were both childhood friends. Meridian Dan was a peripheral member of Meridian Crew along with President T, Skepta, Jme, Big H, Bossman Birdie and Paper Pabs in the early noughties. During his time in the group he made regular appearances on the crew's show on pirate radio station Heat FM show and later on Déjà Vu FM. He featured on Skepta's "Private Caller" single in 2005. Grime (music)
Grime is a genre of electronic dance music (EDM) that emerged in London in the early 2000s. It developed out of the earlier UK dance style UK garage, and draws influences from jungle, dancehall, and hip hop. "German Whip" is the debut single by grime artist Meridian Dan, released as the lead single from his forthcoming debut album, ''I Am London''. The song features vocals from rappers Big H and Jme, and was produced by The HeavyTrackerz, who have been credited with production for many other chart-successful songs. The song entered the UK Singles Chart on 20 May 2014 at number 13, which remains its highest charting position. Background and release The song was released on 13 April 2014, having achieved nationwide recognition beforehand. The song was added to BBC Radio 1Xtra's A-list and received support from BBC Radio 1, Kiss FM and Capital Radio. The song is a panegyric on the subject of driving high-quality German precision engineered motor cars with blacked out windows whilst leaning back. Adrian Harris, better known by his stage name Big H, is an English rapper from Tottenham, London, United Kingdom. Biography Known for his distinctive style, H spent much of his life creating new music and "perfecting the flow". In 2009, H released his debut mixtape ''Street Crime UK''. He was originally a member of Meridian Crew before it split. Following a hiatus, Big H returned in 2012 to release "Mark of the Beast" and begin to ease himself back on to underground radio stations. Boy Better Know, often abbreviated as BBK, is a British grime collective and record label. The collective was founded in North London in 2005 as an independent record label by brothers Jamie and Joseph Adenuga, better known as Jme and Skepta, respectively. The former also serves as a sole owner and director of an associated company, ''Boy Better Know Limited'', incorporated in 2008.
