''Mercs'', originally released as in Japan, is a run and gun video game developed and published in arcades by Capcom in 1990. It is a sequel to the 1985 arcade video game ''Commando'' ( in Japan). While not as successful as its predecessor, ''Mercs'' was well-received by critics and was a moderate commercial success. It was followed by '' Wolf of the Battlefield: Commando 3'' in 2008, a downloadable game. Gameplay The arcade version of the game had up to three players available for play. The players are members of a covert mercenary team known as the "Wolf Force". The team is composed of Joseph Gibson (Player 1 in blue), Howard Powell (Player 2 in red), and Thomas Clarke (Player 3 in yellow). Their objective is to rescue a former President from rebels in the fictional African country of Zutula, which is administered by an apartheid government. ''Commando'', released as in Japan, is a vertical scrolling run-and-gun shooter game released by Capcom for arcades in 1985. The game was designed by Tokuro Fujiwara. It was distributed in North America by Data East, and in Europe by several companies including Capcom, Deith Leisure and Sega, S.A. SONIC. Manami Matsumae
is a Japanese video game music composer. She previously worked for Capcom in the 1980s, writing music for games such as ''Dynasty Wars'', ''Mercs'', ''Magic Sword'', and the original ''Mega Man''. Career She previously worked for Capcom, where she worked on titles such as '' SonSon II'', ''Dynasty Wars'', ''U.N. Squadron'', ''Mercs'', ''Magic Sword'', and ''Carrier Air Wing''. Frank Cirocco (born June 13, 1956) is an American comics artist and video game designer best known as the co-creator of ''Alien Legion'' with Carl Potts and Alan Zelenetz. Early life Frank Cirocco moved from Elmwood Park, New Jersey to San Jose, California with his family in 1961. He attended Branham High School and San Jose State College in the 1970s.
