Winkels (Mengerskirchen)
390px, The Church in Winkels (built 1880) Winkels is a village of the municipality of Mengerskirchen in the district of Limburg-Weilburg in Middle Hesse. It has 967 permanent and 38 temporary residents (as of 31 December 2006). The village lies at the foot of the Westerwald not far from the Lahn in a valley. It is enclosed by wooded and bare Basalt-hills along the highway from Weilburg to Rennerod. History Winkels was first mentioned in the year 1237 as ''Winkelsece'' in court documents. In the immediate area the castle Eigenberg (locally known as the "Maienburg") was erected. In the year 1331 it became the seat of the knights called the Lehnsmänner von Mudersbach. Under the command of the knights, locals were made to provide the castle owners with supplies and both manual and animal labour. For many centuries the residents of Winkels had to walk long distances to the next church, in Mengerskirchen. In 1879 they began to build their own small church which was completed in 1880 ... Merenberg is a municipality in Limburg-Weilburg district in Hesse, Germany. Geography Location Merenberg lies on the southern edge of the Westerwald between the district seat of Limburg and Weilburg. Waldbrunn (Westerwald) is a municipality in Limburg-Weilburg district in Hesse, Germany. Geography Location The community lies in the southern Westerwald. Within the municipal area rises the Kerkerbach, which flows through the centres of Fussingen and Lahr. The Lasterbach flows through the centres of Ellar and Hausen after rising on the nearby Knoten (mountain). Limburg-Weilburg is a Kreis (district) in the west of Hesse, Germany. Neighboring districts are Lahn-Dill, Hochtaunuskreis, Rheingau-Taunus, Rhein-Lahn, Westerwaldkreis. Greifenstein
Greifenstein is a municipality in the Lahn-Dill-Kreis in Hesse, Germany. Its administrative seat is Beilstein. Greifenstein covers 67.43 km² on the eastern slope of the Westerwald range. It was named for the castle of the same name in the constituent community of the same name. This is the site of the German Bell Museum (''Deutsches Glockenmuseum''), which holds about 50 bells that show the historical development of bell pouring and manufacture.
