Memmingen Station
Memmingen station in the city of Memmingen in the German state of Bavaria. The current station building had two predecessors, with the original being opened in 1862. The Buchloe–Memmingen and the Leutkirch–Memmingen railways meet the Neu-Ulm–Kempten railway (Iller Valley Railway) in Memmingen. The route from Munich to Zurich through Memmingen station is planned to be upgraded for tilting trains and electrified. The station is designed to be accessible. For some time various parties have sought another railway stop at Schulzentrum West (school centre west) for about 3,500 students. Location The station is located in the city centre on the eastern edge of the old town, between Kalchstraße and Lindentorstraße. Maximilianstraße starts outside the station from Bahnhofstraße (station street) which runs west of the station. Memmingen
Memmingen (; Swabian: ''Memmenge'') is a town in Swabia, Bavaria, Germany. It is the economic, educational and administrative centre of the Danube-Iller region. To the west the town is flanked by the Iller, the river that marks the Baden-Württemberg border. To the north, east and south the town is surrounded by the district of Unterallgäu (Lower Allgäu). With about 42,000 inhabitants, Memmingen is the 5th biggest town in the administrative region of Swabia. The origins of the town go back to the Roman Empire. The old town, with its many courtyards, castles and patricians' houses, palaces and fortifications is one of the best preserved in southern Germany. A classification yard (American and Canadian English ( Canadian National Railway use)), marshalling yard (British, Hong Kong, Indian, Australian, and Canadian English ( Canadian Pacific Railway use)) or shunting yard (Central Europe) is a railway yard found at some freight train stations, used to separate railway cars onto one of several tracks. First the cars are taken to a track, sometimes called a ''lead'' or a ''drill''. From there the cars are sent through a series of switches called a ''ladder'' onto the classification tracks. In railway signalling, an interlocking is an arrangement of signal apparatus that prevents conflicting movements through an arrangement of tracks such as junctions or crossings. The signalling appliances and tracks are sometimes collectively referred to as an ''interlocking plant''. A swap body, swop body, exchangeable container or interchangeable unit, is one of the types of standard freight containers for road and rail transport. Based on and very similar to the more widespread shipping containers (ISO containers), swap bodies normally have the same external dimensions for the bottom corner fittings as ISO shipping containers so that they can be placed on the same kinds of trucks, trailers and railroad cars designed for shipping containers. However, ISO containers inner dimensions (2.33 m wide) are just a few centimetres too short to accommodate European-pool pallets () without leaving much empty space. Reichsbahndirektion Augsburg (RBD Augsburg) was a Deutsche Reichsbahn railway division within the Bavarian Group Administration in southern Germany. The area covered by this division included the province of Swabia in Bavaria and extended into Upper Bavaria in the area around Augsburg. The southern section of the Ludwig South-North Railway ran through the divisional area along its entire length from (Gunzenhausen) via Donauwörth, Augsburg and Kempten (Allgäu) as far as Lindau.
