Meiluawati
Meluawati (later Meiluawati; born May 25, 1975) is an Indonesian born former world-class badminton player who represented Indonesia and later the United States. Career Meluawati was a member of Indonesia's world champion 1996 Uber Cup (women's international) team, winning her final round match against China's future World and Olympic champion Zhang Ning. She was also a member of the 1998 Indonesian Uber Cup team which finished second to China. In individual competition she won women's singles at the Polish Open in 1996 and was women's singles runner-up to the formidable Susi Susanti at the 1997 Indonesia Open. Playing for the United States in the early 2000s, Meluawati won consecutive U.S. National women's singles titles in 2001, 2002, and 2003; and women's doubles in 2001 and 2003. Badminton At The 1997 Southeast Asian Games
A badminton tournament was held at the 1997 SEA Games in Asia-Africa hall at the Senayan sports complex, Jakarta from 12 to 18 October 1997. Both men and women competed in their own team, singles, and doubles events and together they competed in a mixed doubles event. There was also a playoff between the two semifinal losers to determine the sole winner of the bronze medal. Indonesia National Badminton Team
The Indonesia national badminton team represents Indonesia in international badminton team competitions and is controlled by the Badminton Association of Indonesia, the governing body for badminton in Indonesia. Indonesia is one of the only two countries beside China who has won all badminton discipline in the Olympic Games. The Indonesian team has not been absent from the Thomas Cup tournament (world men's team championship) since it first entered and won the competition in 1958. Mia Audina Tjiptawan (born 22 August 1979) is a former Indonesian badminton player who represented Indonesia and later the Netherlands in international competitions. A badminton prodigy, Audina first played Uber Cup (the women's world team championship) for Indonesia at age fourteen, winning the decisive final match in the championship round against China in 1994. She was briefly ranked as the World No.1 women's singles player in October 1996. Audina helped Indonesia to retain the Uber Cup title in 1996, and was a member of the 1998 Indonesian team which relinquished the Cup to China, before moving to the Netherlands with her Dutch-national husband in 2000. Lucia Francisca "Susi" Susanti Haditono (; born 11 February 1971) is an Indonesia retired badminton player. Relatively small of stature, she combined quick and graceful movement with elegant shotmaking technique, and is regarded by many as one of the greatest women's singles players of all time. She is the first Indonesian Olympic gold medalist. Career Susanti won the women's singles gold medal at the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona, Spain and the bronze medal at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, United States. Mesinee "May" Mangkalakiri ( th, เมษิณี มังคละคีรี; ; born April 21, 1983, in Los Alamitos, California) is an American badminton player of Thai descent. She won a bronze medal, along with her partner Raju Rai, in the mixed doubles at the 2003 Pan American Games in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. She repeated her bronze medal performance with her new partner Bob Malaythong in the mixed doubles, and also, beat Canada's Fiona McKee and Charmaine Reid for the gold in the women's doubles at the 2007 Pan American Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. The Pan American Badminton Championships is a tournament organized since 1977 by the Badminton Pan America (BPA) to crown the best badminton players in the Americas. The tournament was held every year from 1977 until 1980, then every two years from 1987 until 2007. It is now organized annually, except once every four years when the Pan American Games multi-sports event is held.
